At first I thought "great, another loco to maintain". Now i'm over that attack of pessimism, i'm actually looking forward to it appearing on the yard. It'll give me something different to look at when i'm having my squashed sandwich (or equally squashed cake) on my lunch break.

AFAIK it'll be Summer 2016 before she arrives at the East Lancs Railway. I'm a member of the CFPS, so am quite a happy man. It also gives us the three different variants of Discs, Splitbox and Centre Headcode noses.

How is it being moved up here? I presume either 345 or a low loader will be involved.

Two class 40s on one diagram during events is an exiting prospect as well.

It'll be a shame if she does end up on the ELR.

Nothing against the ELR as a railway, but it does lessen the geographic spread of the operational 40s - particularly when 306 used to be on the NVR and then the Battlefield.

It would have been nice if one of them could have stayed in the South.

I'm sure she'll be visiting other preserved railways in the future.

I don't know what the group have planned for 40106.

Regarding the geographical spread of the preserved 40s, the spiritual home of the class 40s is the North West, and 40106 was allocated to Longsight for many years.

It would make a fine sight at the proposed Longsight Depot Open Day in 2017 :)

I think its a backward step as far as the loco is concerned, its in A1 tip top immaculate condition due in no small part to it having lived in undercover accommodation since it was purchased from BR.
It only ever came out once in a blue moon which made it kind of exclusive and an event in itself when it did come out.

It will now live outside and no doubt get used often with people wanting lots of thrash etc etc, give it a year or two and it wont be in such good a condition and in time will probably end up OOS waiting for funds or man power to fix it.

I believe the CFPS was after donations recently for new tyres????? Now they brought another loco for what would have for sure been a premium price. Wheres the cash coming from.

Short term it will be great the attention 40106/CFPS will get.
Long term I think it will bad news for the loco.

Large Logo was okay for a while on 40145, but wasn't traditional for a 40. I presume everyone wants 40106 in green, knowing she carried that livery until being withdrawn by BR.

Put your alco pop drink down for a minute and explain your logic with that last comment?

Where have I said id rather see it rot or cut up, it had the best possible home an historic loco could possibly want under Neils care, in a shed!
