Problems on the ECML today the 10:08 KX - Newark has terminated Grantham due brake problems and the 11:21 GC service to Sunderland has terminated at Hitchin due traction probs. Bit of a queue at Peterborough wth the 11:00, 11:08 and 11:30 all waiting paths north. Actually just started moving.

Caught up in this too, on the 12:00 King's Cross to Inverness. Currently 10 miles south of Grantham and it doesn't look like we're moving anytime soon.

The guard sounds exceptionally pessimistic - "This will be a very long delay" sort of stuff. Not a good day for it to happen I guess, with services winding down early too!

Oh well. At least there is coffee and the train is fairly quiet.

Just come to stand just north of Grantham 85 late on the 11:30 ex KX. Waiting for a big engine to drag the 09:48 Hull service out of the way. Lots of very delayed pax on the route today.

1E09/10/11 on the move south now. Guessing 1D10/D71/S13/S15 could get set wrong line down to Claypole.
By the looks of things the 11.08 to Newark got sent via Lincoln which is pretty cunning, as has the 12.53 GC to Sunderland.

According to the crew on 1S15 (who have been excellent by the way) they're having trouble attaching the loco to the Unit so a fitter has been sent for.

10:30 ex KX departed Newark 135 late but at least has got through!

It looks like 1D10 is now through, but I have a family member on 1D12 which is just South of Stoke tunnel and still 4th in line on the down line. I can't see much of a queue on the up line - or am I missing something?

I think the notable cancellations are:

  • 1A93 Hull Trains 0823 Hull to London Kings Cross which appears to have been terminated at Retford due to "a problem with the on-board safety systems"
  • 1B82 Virgin Trains 1008 London Kings Cross to Newark Northgate which appears to have terminated at Grantham due to "a problem with the brakes"
  • 1N92 Grand Central 1121 London Kings Cross to Sunderland which appears to have terminated at Hitchin due to "
    a problem with the train"

So all in all a bit of a mess!

One pax and a freight waiting at Northgate, soon to be joined by two more pax trains in about ten minutes.

Looks like the offending item has now been dragged off the down line and is in platform 3 at Newark North Gate.
Might still get a beer this evening.

Looks like the failed 1H02 has now been dragged into platform 3 at Northgate, and we're on the move – 126 down on the 12:00 ex-London mind, but could be worse :)

They need a picture of a clapped out 442 really! We don't want people thinking the service they can't use would have been more pleasurable than it actually would have been ;)

only if they have to cover something in the North ... "this is what a train looks like. If only the North had these"<D
