Does anyone know what has happened to the Greater Anglia 317/722 demonstrator unit? I haven't seen it in service for quite some time.

From what I gathered, it was being prepared for a run... are these transformer faults new?

Has sat idle pretty much for a year after much time and effort appeared to be put into trialling it.

Which is a pity, as refurbished Class 317s would be perfect for EWR, or to provide additional rolling stock in the Anglia region. Angel Trains not interested in flogging the GN and LO units?

One of the senior guys was learning it so he could show others but they only went at night which made it almost impossible to learn so they went during the day and videoed the journey.

At this point what happens based in the 317 and 321 demonstrators is doiwn to the bidders for the next GA franchise. Expect nothing much before the winner is announced I'd have thought

What depot? And who else is going to learn it? Interested to know if I'll be going back there!

Aren't the 321s being done regardless, by the ROSCO?

It won't be out now until Monday morning, its sitting in the yard at BIS after several of its workings today were cancelled due to drivers not signing it!

I understood drivers had to be specifically trained on 317 722 as its handling characteristics were found to differ substantially from the standard 317.

Yeah thats it ^ and as 722 has been out of action for a long while, driver's competency has slipped past the 6 month marker so can't drive it.

So hang on, somebody in control has made the effort to move it to Stortford "for use" after IL eventually fix it but a load of drivers have claimed not to sign it and there are cancellations as a result.

You wonder why AGA (especiaply the first A) have a bad rep as a bunch of clowns?!

I not a train driver but you do not seam to understand how traction knowledge works in the industry.
Drives need training on units
This needs yo be kept up to date and lapses if they do not drive particular traction type

It seams to me that train drivers take their safety responsibilities seriously and speaking personally I would not want it any other way

Trust me when I say that 722 handles totally different to a regular 317, the braking is entirely different, and a lot of recently qualified drivers haven't ever driven 722 so will need training on it, as there is new equipment on it and the locations of other equipment have changed compared to a normal 317.

I think the question was why did Control not know that, not criticism of the drivers, who obviously have to know what's different about it. How does it handle when coupled to another 317, or is that prohibited at the moment?
