I am, and always have been, a fan of tomato ketchup.....

Heinz has always been my favourite until recently, when Hellmans potentially took joint first place! I've not found another brand/supermarket's own brand that comes anywhere close in taste, texture and look. They can tend to be a bit vinegary. And for all I try to stick to low sugar/low salt products where available, in ketchup I've not found a decent one yet.

So, what makes a good tomato ketchup? Which are people's favourites?

My favourite is no ketchup at all, can't stand the stuff. Prefer to taste the food.

Sorry not the answer you were looking for ;)

Still an answer! Cheers ☺ My mum used to say a similar thing (though she likes it herself now!).

I was brought up on the 57 varieties brand too, but I now find it has too much sugar and I wonder how I didn't notice before.

Heinzsight is a wonderful thing...

Hated ketchup as a kid preferring HP. Gradually came to like it on some things. However current preference is a Chipotle and Cola sauce (no idea where the better half bought this from).

There's nothing quite like Heinz. Can't remember which brand I've got in the cupboard at the moment - I know it's not Heinz but whatever it is it's okay. Certainly agree with Masboroughlad that some of the supermarket own brand ones can be a bit vinegary.

I'm a Heinz Man when it comes to Ketchup, but I normally have HP Brown if there is a choice.

Libby's used to do a nice Ketchup but I have not seen that for years. I have seen Hellmans Ketchup but not tried it yet. Own brands and daddys are a pale imitation of heinz a bit like any other form of mayo compared to hellmans.

I think any form of sauce is better out of a glass bottle rather than a squeezy one - totally illogical I know.

Sainsbury's own brand is decent stuff. One thing that has always puzzled me...
why does both tomato soup and tomato ketchup never actually taste of tomato?

In 9 out of 10 cases drop the red rubbish and pick up your bottle of glourious HP!

The only true way to use tomato sauce is to boil it up with fried onions, water, sugar, paprika and curry powder then drench some bratwurst in it, top with more curry powder. BOOM! Currywurst! :D

Heinz is the big one however if you go to local farmers markets and that you can pick up some really nice ones with infusions of garlic and such like.

We came back from the the West country last year with about 12 different ones :(

I say we, I mean me. lol

Got to be Heinz Tommy K.
Coleman's English mustard for a sausage.
Occasionally brown sauce for a bacon sarnie.

Know what you mean. As a kid, I could never understand why I loved tomato soup and tomato ketchup but not fresh tomatoes!

Like all of them now.

Always favoured HP brown until last year, when I discovered Heinz jalapeño ketchup, haven't looked back since :D

Heinz.

I hate the cheap tomato sauce you find in cafes.

I also like it on toast.

I don't use sauce that much, except for brown sauce on bacon butties.
Daddies or HP are both good, but some of the own brand ones are just as good.

My son likes tomato ketchup and is currently quite happy with the Tesco own brand decanted into a Heinz bottle.

Tiptree Tomato Sauce. Expensive but worth the money.

Sainsbury's own brand is about the only cheapo one I find acceptable. Some farmer's market ones are also yummy.

Can't stand brown sauce. Find it absolutely disgusting.

Sainsburys own brand is good, the reduced sugar and salt option still tastes the same.
Tesco own brand is also quite nice
Batts from Lidl is also surprisingly good, as was Kanina, maybe its the same one renamed
Heinz is good, but the cheaper alternatives do the job just as well
HP sauce is nice for a change to have with my chips, as is mayonnaise.

Brown and Red from Aldi - just as good as the big brands.

HP - won't buy the stuff anymore since the production was shifted to the Netherlands and the UK operation closed down.

I'm not a ketchup snob. I do like Heinz and Daddy's though.

Also I really like that curry ketchup you get in Germany.
