Hi there,
Been absent a little while. Just wanted to say that I got an offer from one of the TOCs I applied for last year as they had decided to take me on from their reserve pool and handed in my notice today, am very much looking forward to start working on the railways.
In a way the wait was a good thing; it taught me patience and also enabled me to reflect on several things. For one, it won't be all 'milk and honey' -there'll be bad days, there'll be incidents, and yes it is a very responsible role, but it seems the majority of staff both on here and those I've spoken to face-to-face overall enjoy the role, and I have also been 'taking notes' from my contacts who already work in the industry.
Just wanted to thank everyone who helped me on here and who were supportive when things were looking bleak; your words were very much appreciated. Also like to place my thanks to people who contributed to other threads that discuss the generalities of working on the railways, such as the "what do you enjoy about working on the railway" thread that's currently trending, for example - these have been informative and some good reading/learning while I was waiting.
I'll probably hang about if welcome.
I'll sign off, quoting the old Guinness slogan: "Good things come to those..."
