They'll have to thin the service out considerably to reverse at Clapham Junction, it would be quite ridiculous to run GatEx in preference to more useful longer distance services.

The possession plan at origin had GX via Herne Hill to Vic as usual for these blocks. Govia have chosen to run down route knowledge so didn't have enough drivers to do what they signed up for

Because you cannot use two platforms at Clapham Junction to run a service that normally uses 11 platforms at Victoria.
But the only other trains reversing at Clapham Junction are the Epsom trains which should be using the suburban platforms (14 & 15) everything else is using London Bridge station so the Gatwick trains could surely reverse on platforms 12 & 13 or is that not possible if so just run them down to Brighton.

Oh really? So where are the Dorking, Epsom Downs, Sutton, Caterham trains all turning around then?
Platforms 12&13 are not in use and why would you clog up valuable paths with trains that most people claim are empty anyway?

Sorry I didn't realize I just wanted to see a variety for when I went out to trainspot on Saturday I suppose they don't need them because they've got enough Electrostar class 377 and 387 units to provide an adequate service for those going to Gatwick just like they won't need 319s either.

Exactly. Eleven platforms worth of trains cannot all use two platforms at Clapham Junction to turn around in.
And as I've heard trains can't reverse from platforms 12 and 13 at Clapham Junction and the 442s are probably more expensive to run which would be Southern's excuse for not running them!

if more drivers signed stewarts lane then maybe they could reverse via there... unless the block starts before Pouparts Junction.

Can't happen. Stewart's Lane is fairly full with four days worth of exams etc so there isn't the room. Plus sending trains down a single line to reverse (as it is in the block) is going to stuck up capacity.

Going back to the subject matter, first 442 will be off to be stored very shortly.

Apologies if it has already been asked, but is there an expected date when all the 442s are removed from service?

It will be several years before ALL of them are removed from service, given the retention of a few (six, still?) for the peak Eastbourne/Brighton - London Bridge trains.

In terms of Gatwick Express, I thought mid-summer was the estimated date for full 387 service.

I doubt that will last long though. 2 or 3 years tops - as they'll be swimming in suitable Electrostar variants by early 2018.

Yes, my 'several years' over-egged things a bit. I imagine the earliest opportunity possible will be seized to eliminate this micro-fleet.

But no need to arrange a farewell tour for 2016, though.

Which will be after the full Class 700 timetable is introduced in 2018 (the resulting rolling stock cascade).

Hi,
Does anyone know whether any Class 442s are running today?

Whilst Southeastern have a large stock shortage. Real lack of strategic planning. And I'm not suggesting 442s go there but commenting on overriding 'plans'.
