After my foray into the dark side with Eraserhead I decided to go to the other extreme with Clueless , a high school comedy starring the delightful Alicia Silverstone. I'm pretty sure that the target audience wasn't someone of my age and sex but it's well written, well acted, funny and I enjoyed it - 6.5/10

Star Wars Episode VIII, The Force Awakens

I can't actualy begin to describe this film. Words can not actualy describe how good this film is. It is the best Star Wars film ever made, the best space/flying machine chases I've ever seen in a film (specificaly when Rey is persued in the Millennium Falcon by two Tie-Fighters), the best dog fight ever seen in a film. It's awesome!

The Life of David Gale - Kevin Spacey, playing an anti capital punishment activist who is on death row having been convicted of rape and murder, tells a journalist (Kate Winslet) his story. Kevin Spacey is always value for for money but I wasn't convinced by Kate Winslet's performance, still a good film though - 7.5/10.

I just saw Jane Got a Gun, which I rate 2/5. It was well-shot, but I didn't really care about any of the characters, they were generally interchangeable degrees of evilly rugged.

Gone Baby Gone - A young private detective is hired to help in the search for a missing 4 year old girl whose neglectful mother is a low life drug addict. The denouement leaves both the protagonist and the viewer with a moral dilemma. The final scene made me come down on one side, others will no doubt take the opposite view. - 7.5/10

American Psycho - The title says it all, stars Christian Bale whose looking in the mirror at the most inappropriate moments is really creepy. I wasn't sure I liked the ending at first but having had a day to mull it over I think I see what it all meant. - 7/10

The Railway Man. Based on a true story about a guy who worked on the Burma railway after being captured by the Japanese when the British surrendered in Singapore. Colin Firth is brilliant, very moving.

A great film, with good acting. Harrison Ford was very good, and the new characters seem very nuanced - BB-8 in particular. Daisy Ridley and John Boyega were capable new leads - looking forward to Episode VIII. 4/5

Just watched John Wick which was very entertaining. Fast paced and looked very stylish. Special mention for 2 others I watched over the weekend, Child 44 (Which I quite enjoyed despite some ropey reviews) and Guardians Of The Galaxy which was lots of fun.

****e, not a patch on the original, stupid contrived plot, no story being told, no laughs.

Life's a garden, dig it (that's from the original btw)

I saw Eye in the Sky yesterday. I rate it 4/5 (very good).

That being said, I would not want to see it again. Some films will have you coming back again and again - think Commando, Star Wars, Love Actually. But Eye in the Sky is not an easy film - like The Last King of Scotland, it's a very good film, but you see it once and you don't want to put yourself through it again.

By the way, did anyone else see Knock Knock?

The recent one. Now, I like a good bleak arty film as much as anyone, but I read a review that described it as "meaningless pain porn", which sums it up perfectly. It was like a bad Quentin Tarantino movie without the jokes, style and pace. And definitely no meaning.

how odd? well having never seen that version ( I'm too young - imdb states its about a woman with an unusual birth defect ), would you recommend it, and how would you rate it?

The one I saw or the adult film of the same title?

If you mean the former, its a stunning piece of work of mystery and intrigue about the fall of the President

If you mean the adult film of the same name, the climax of the movie is great

sounds as though, you are recommending the latter version of the title - perhaps, i'll take a look for it, the next time i'm in blockbusters...

Special Correspondents. Eric Bana and Ricky Gervais are a journalist and sound engineer from local radio who pretend to report on events in war-torn Ecuador while in reality they haven't left New York.

It's a decent enough comedy film, in a disposable kind of way. Enjoyable enough, really. 3/5

That kind of reminds me of two Brits who managed to bluff their way into the hospital where Kennedy was taken by putting on broad Yorkshire accents, holding notebooks and saying they were from the Yorkshire Post

Triangle - Melissa George in a mystery/thriller which I've just watched for the third time and still spotted things I hadn't noticed before. Relatively low budget, no big stars, not much CGI, no Oscars just a well written, well acted film with a few surprises and one that must have needed careful planning to realise some of the scenes. This is the kind of film that shows you don't need to spend $100M on special effects to tell a gripping story. Warning - it is a bit of a mindf**k, but that's what I like. Recommended 8.0/10
