shows Eurostars virtually all on time or early, the one from Marseilles getting in 14 mins early.

p.s. on searching the Dollands Moor W Jct page I have found 2 or 3 eurostars that did suffer delays, one at max of 73 mins, so maybe it wasn't too far wrong. Better to have said "Eurotunnel's vehicle shuttle service have faced delays..." though.

They're passengers travelling by rail, in what way are they not "rail passengers"? The fact they have cars with them is an irrelevance, a person on a ro-ro ferry with their car would still be a ferry passenger. The BBC even specified the issue was with Eurotunnel, I really don't see the problem with that article.

So AndrewE. what do you call the human beings travelling with the driver. PASSENGERS.
Payment has been made for passage on the train and so everyone is a passenger.

As others have said, the reporting is spot on. At that point, they are rail passengers.

I think that as written it will lead the non-user (the vast majority of the UK population) to imagine that rail services through the tunnel were affected.
I'm afraid that most people would skim-read it,think "Oh, rail has failed again!" and move on when in reality the international rail passenger services were unaffected but the vehicle shuttles had a problem.

You seem to be missing the very obvious point that Le Shuttle passengers are still rail passengers. They are using rail as a mode of transport ergo they are rail passenger.

And the vast majority of the UK popuation might also have read the bit about "Eurotunnel's vehicle shuttle service" at the start of story.

And as noted above, Eurotunnel is a rail service - and if we want to get into your definition of a rail service, lorry drivers using the shuttles have to get out of their vehicles and ride in a passenger coach...

The headline I picked up said 'Eurotunnel and Eurostar passengers could be held up for 5 hours'. In fact, there were a couple of ES delays from the Paris / Brussels side for up to an hour, late on (see RTT), but generally the ES service ran OK yesterday.

I agree with the OP that the headline writers could not differentiate between ES and ET if you paid them - and they are not paid to do so! I blame the choice of similar names by the original firms.
