Voyager HVAC, made by Faiveley and repaired\overhauled by Servotech.

The last one I travelled on had two of four coaches with the aircon u/s. That added a whole new world of unpleasantness to what is never an enjoyable journey. I was on for a short time; how on earth anybody would have managed several hours I've no idea.

I went on 2 class 158's today, one Northern and the other East Midlands Trains (which was paired up to another unit). Guess which one had the best air-con!

Travelled a bit in the last month and found train aircon varies widely.
Worst was a GWR HST which had 4 out of 8 coaches with failed aircon (on a 30c day).

At least the windows in the doors can be left down which would circulate air, and presumably someone can wedge a suitcase in the doors at each end, unlike in a Mk4 which I've experienced in sauna conditions far too many times than I care to remember.

I find S stock air con decent enough, helps if you've just got off of some sort of tube stock in a hot day before hand.

Is it allowed on here to praise something Voyager-related? The aircon is fantastic on both sides of the cab door.

For me, I think it has to be East Midlands' Class 158s, with the Class 185s a close second.

378s are lovely and cool when it's working. S stock can be. Both seem to get quite warm before it kicks in though, which can be a nuisance on hot busy days.

Have been in a fair few Pendolino carriages where it's failed - usually the TM will try to find space in other carriages for people to move but sometimes the trains are too full to manage that.

The first one is a joke... Right? ;)

Though certain units are better than others, as with all 158 fleets!
