Good idea. Then passengers can enjoy a true 'Metro' service. One idea was to keep the newspaper and throw away the 317. But to be fair they seem to perform quite well on the 18.18 Liverpool St to Ipswich whenever I've caught it.

Expect to hear some more details this week as the 10 day silence will be up
A thought.... The minimum unit will be a 3 car for 'Regionals' with some 4 cars, I am not sure how much havoc this will cause to the timetable, there will be capacity issues at terminal stations such as Ipswich & Norwich, currentlu we can have 3 or 4 different services in a platform, but as they are made up of 153's and 156's they 'fit' convert those to a minimum 3 car, and we will run of of space very quickly !
The units are bi-mode, they can run on 25kV OLE and path comfortably amongst the pure EMU services.
The existing timetable and the way in which DMU services terminate are likely to change radically to enable the step-up in capacity and frequency which can be provided with the new fleet.
Great Yarmouth-Stansted Airport with around a 5 minute turnaround at Norwich would be an efficient use of a unit if it can be pathed on the single line sections from Brundall/Reedham. Also at Ipswich the East Suffolk & Peterborough services have fairly long & wasteful layovers which has long been talked about to increase frequency. The Peterborough states that most will run to/from Colchester so pan-up at Stow. Norwich suffers from so many arrivals/departures in the xx:30-xx:00 period with next to nothing in the other half hour.
With the increase in length of the coaches, the capacity of Ipswich will be radically different. The current A/B/C of plat 2, 3 & 4 is going to change as they are for 4 car trains at the current length. If the London-Ipswich trains are put through to Norwich that will give another space for the Anglia regional services. But I agree with Philip there is a huge reshuffle and rediagram coming for the entire network.
If I read it right the IC units are fixed formations (12), so they could be hourly, then maybe use the Regional / Surburban units to fill in the other half hour, could have a 3 way split / attach ? for example: detach Colchester for Clacton, Ipswich for Lowestoft, and the remaining unit Yarmouth via Norwich ?

But the GE units will be 5 car Bombardier trains with the Anglia stock being Stadler so I'm not exactly sure how you think that could work.
Are we going to see platform extensions to fit fifteen car-trains, then - or are the cars themselves becoming longer...?
I'm also interested in the timetable changes before the new trains arrive, they could probably get more out of intercity sets I guess. Norwich station has plenty of capacity, the pinch point will be trowse swing bridge I'm sure.

On one of my local lines, Sudbury, the platforms at Sudbury and Marks Tey wouldn't be long enough for what I assume will be three-car bi-modes. Sudbury is 52m and I believe MKT is either 45 or 50m. The other two stations should be ok. Would the curved platform 3 at MKT also be an issue if the doors are towards the middle of the cars instead of the ends as on the current sprinters?
Also, platform 3 is not electrified so would the new trains be able to switch over from diesel to electric mode while in motion when they reach the mainline between Marks Tey and Colchester? I can't imagine NR electrifying platform 3 and the section of track merging onto the GER mainline.
Another possibility is the 3/4 car regional trains may be articulated, therefore similar length to existing stock?
