Hello all,

I'm far from local to Bromley South, last time I was there was yonks ago, so I don't know but I'm only going by my train sim route and a signal simulator, but does Bromley South P3 have a signal at the country end for terminating trains with associated crossovers?

The simulators suggest not, but Platform 2 has a starter signal at the London End with a crossover to the Up line.

I ask as I note in RTT that empties to work passenger services (i.e empty Victoria - Bromley South, passenger service Bromley South - Victoria) and vice versa are booked for platform 2, but all this week and before they've apparently ended up in Platform 3?

Unless the layout has changed I'm not sure how that works, is the NR data assuming it's in 3 when it's actually in 2 maybe?

You can't access platform 3 from London, it is for London bound trains only and there is no reversible working. So no, there is no signal at the country end. Trains st Bromley South can only terminate in platform 2 on the down fast, and return towards London via the crossover at the east end to the up fast.

For east read west.

It replaced the crossover at Shortlands Junction on the Catford Loop which allowed turnbacks from the Down Slow (P4) - à feature dating from electrification!
There used to be a ladder crossover at the east (Bickley) end - in practice used for shunt moves only, though ISTR DF to DS was signalled. But that's getting OT.

Indeed, as 30907 says, the crossover is now west of Bromley South (i.e towards London). Trains terminate in platform 2, change ends, then head back towards London using the crossover to join the Up Fast (i.e the line coming from platform 1).

The crossover sees a lot of use in the AM Peak, for Victoria and TL services starting at Bromley.

Platform 2 has also been used in the past to reverse trains due to start at Beckenham Junction where Platform 4 has been unavailable.

I have also been told about the crossover being used in reverse a long time ago, to terminate and reverse trains to and from the Kent coast, but would only be used during engineering works due to how impractical this is to do.
