Why is it an important question, seems trivial to me? Why do you want to know?

Because this is a friendly forum and we like to know eachothers opinions like for instance I have never seen you say anything till now so let us know about yourself.

Don't worry Im not going to probe you about your bank account.

Fully comitted basher and spotter here.

Preservation doesn't interest me as much as all you do is crawl along all day with limited thrash opportunities, not to mention the massive ching.

Modelling is too expensive for me.

Simulating is more fun than modelling, but you need a super machine to run much bigger than BVE4. And I ain't been on that in ages. SimSig drives me mad, so I don't touch it anymore.

IMO, if you've lost interest in the mainline scene, then preservation is the ideal place to go. For me, I like my time off for spending on the mainline as there's just so much to do on it still. One day, that'll probably change so I'll be ready for preservation then. Simulating is also all fine and well if you've lost interest in the mainline, but even in simulations you can't replicate everything.

Mostly photter with a bit of basher I guess. I'm also interested in unusual/disused railways and a bit of railway history.

Well here is the all important question then what are you to the railway world so all of us can offcially brand you.
Let us know which part of the railways is your scene.
Are you a?

Basher
Photter
Spotter
Modeler
Preservationist
Simulator

Basically yes we all do more than just one of these and a lot of us do all but I want to know what you would say your main railway activity is.
For instance I am a photter through and through.
But Im a preservationist (as I volunteer every now and again)
I own models (so I can be a modeler).
And I the idea of doing every piece of track in the midlands (basher).

So let us know!!!!

Unlisted. - PASSENGER - :)

Annoyingly for me, Phoenix hasn't listed the two classes that I'd fit in: Insane Engineer, and Imagineer <D

One of my biggest reasons for having an interest in the railways is not so much in the system or the stock that exists today, but more what may exist tomorrow - At least as far as HSR and XHSR (eXtreme High Speed Rail) is concerned. 8)
As many of ye will have already noticed, I have a rather protracted view on speeds and distances. I personally feel that the 1,100(ish) line miles between Penzance and Wick should be coverable by train in a start-to-stop time of no more than thirty minutes, and - To me, at least - The concept of trains travelling along the WCML at four and five figure speeds is a perfectly plausable one!<D

Though many BR traction workers and enthusiasts may have given it up for dead by now, I personally feel that the Class 370 APT-P had a potential truly unparallelled by any other rail vehicle built even to this day, the Transrapid and JR maglevs being the only possible exceptions. In it's short life, the APT-P was only ever taken up to a paltry 162mph in passenger service...And even at that speed it was operating below half power!

So - Though it'd only be the starting block in a lot of R&D work for an XHSR system - I feel that if the APT-P was returned to the rails "as is" and thrashed along the ECML at maximum power, speeds of well over the 225mph mark could easily be recorded...And that's with the train at 1979CE specifications!
Upgrade the APT-P with modern traction motors (So 2,250bhp, insted of the existing 1,000bhp units) and that Behemoth of British Rail would show her true colours in full thrash... <D<D<D

Anyhow - Moving back to the original point, I'd say that I'm probabally a Basher out of all of the above listed options...Maybe also a latter-day Preservationist because of my interest in the APT-P. I have no real interest in any of the other areas, although a while ago I took a slight technical interest in photting as I was wondering if automating rail photography - Using a high-res digital camera, virtual "trip-wires", and ANPR software to read unit numbers - Could be possible. :D8)

Id say photter/modeller/basher/simmer, don't really see the need to take number at the moment, but its something to do in the future...

Basher: Occasionally, if there's a superly awesome new / old train working.
Photter: a must when I travel on a new line / visit a new station / see a train or livery that ain't in my collection.
Spotter: ALWAYS when I travel on any train.
Modeler: Not really. I fail at creativity. LOL. I like to goto exhibitions though.
Preservationist: When I've got some spare time, I like to volunteer at Chinnor.
Simulator: I do like a bit of Simsig, Rail Sim, MSTS and BVE every now and then.

What a well rounded enthusiast I am: It must be all that chocolate...
