Any there any major engineering works already planned between Christmas and New Year in 2016?

I'm thinking about where to go in that period, so I'm looking for information about blockades/major engineering works on the mainlines + also lines in Kent (hopefully the line out of Dover will be open by then).

I appreciate we are over the 12 week period for booking advance tickets, but I am looking to book hotels in advance of that date.

Thank you in advance for any information.

The GEML the route is closed from 24th December until 2nd January, see NR's press release;

In December 2016, the Great Eastern Main line will be closed from Witham and Billericay into London Liverpool Street from 24 December to 2 January inclusive, affecting both Abellio Greater Anglia and TfL Rail services except:

On Christmas Eve, TfL Rail services will be able to operate a limited service between Liverpool Street and Chadwell Heath.
Between 28 December and 2 January 2017 (inclusive), TfL Rail will be able to operate a limited service between Liverpool Street and Chadwell Heath.
Rail replacement bus services will operate from Ingatestone and Billericay to Newbury Park. A rail replacement bus service will operate between Shenfield and Chadwell Heath for TfL Rail passengers.

This in addition to 8 weekends between 17th Sept and 6th November 2016 when there are also various closures between London and Witham/Billericay primarily for Crossrail works and Shenfield remodelling.

The Dover Sea Wall will be open by then, Between Saturday 24th & Wednesday 28th December, Sevenoaks Tunnel will be closed with Hastings trains diverted via Redhill to London Bridge LL and a half hourly 'Fast' Sevenoaks to London service will operate.

There's also some major resignalling work at New Cross over the Holiday Period for 6 days which will see services diverted away to Blackfriars/Victoria.

I assume the closure of Sevenoaks tunnel is something to do with the speed restriction currently in place there?

There will be a 6 day closure between Slough and Paddington from 24th December to commission the Acton dive-under and Stockley fly-over. Expect the GWR diversions to Marylebone and Waterloo to operate but this time, it is thought trains will not go to Banbury to reverse but access the Chiltern route via the new Oxford Parkway route.

I feel that Chiltern would try and object to that!

Would they? Given that it has happened previously and that I can't imagine you'd struggle to fit the diverted services over the new line via Islip I can't see why they'd be up in arms. I seem to recall their timetable took a sizeable hit every time Virgin used to divert via High Wycombe and that diversion happened regularly for years.

Will the Romford-Upminster branch remain open between 28-30 Dec inclusive, allowing Romford passengers to travel into London via Upminster?

Problem here is that there's also a big blockade of Waterloo over Christmas, with work in the throat for the P20-24 alterations.

Is it possible the Slough to Paddington stuff will be reliefs only?

Are there any major works on the WCML or ECML over New Year period?
I can't see anything mentioned yet on NRE or VT sites.
I will be going to Grange Over Sands on 29 or 30 Dec, returning back on Monday 2nd Jan.
Usually use GN into Kings Cross then VT Euston to Lancaster. (or could use VTEC Stevenage to Leeds)

Thanks

Further to previous info there will be no GWR diversions to other London stations but trains will run to West Ealing and turn back from there.
I haven't got the actual dates yet as not yet fully in systems, but there will be no trains between Bridgend and Newport on the Main Line and Cardiff Valley services will not run south of Caerphilly or Pontypridd. Massive bus operation. In other words, Cardiff completely closed due to re-modelling and re-signalling

You mean Ealing Broadway for District and Central lines into London.

Yes. Major S&C and plain line renewals in the Wembley & Willesden areas. Also a full replacement of bridge 45 in the Harrow area.

I presume Network Rail will have another go at replacing the bridge (or bridges) over Old Lodge Lane, Coulsdon, which was disrupted by bad weather last year. That would see the Brighton Main Line severed for the duration.

Ah thanks. I was thinking around the new year part, which might be why it it didn't show up when I looked.

Still, if there's work between Sheffield and Chesterfield I guess it'll just be diversions around the "old road".

Ordsall Lane Junction closed from 19th to 30th December, so bustitution on the Chat Moss line between Eccles and Manchester. All services on the Bolton and Atherton lines run into Manchester Victoria not Oxford Road/Piccadilly.

Ha ha guys. I was being extremely facetious as every year a thread kicks off the usual drivel about sporting events & lack of transport on much of the rail network. Lets NOT go there again.
