Slough Town are going great guns in the Evo-Stik League Southern Premier Division, with a 1-0 away win at Dunstable being a ninth straight league win, and they remain four points clear at the top.
That's six consecutive league clean sheets for Slough and they now haven't conceded in 620 minutes of play.

The points gained from those matches above by the four bottom teams in that league bear a resemblance to the last four placed teams in the Highland League.

sh*$$y England stumble to Slovenian bore draw - even San Marino scored tonight! We should just stop. now.

Slovenia could have easily scored four times in that match. I note that in their previous match, they defeated Slovakia, who in turn beat Scotland in the latest match.

Gareth Southgate described the culture when the squad arrived with him as a 'mess'. I assume he means their attitude and approach.
Maybe time to give his successful under 21s a go.

although, traitorously, I have a bet on that Scotland beat England at Wembley.

The jocks will raise their game so much for the biggest game many of their players will ever play in that i think they will beat England.

The problem is a lot of us would rather beat England than qualify for the Tournament, which on any rational level is nonsense - but this is football

At least you support your team, most England "fans" wont support players from rival club teams to their own, or live on 5-10 years ago forgetting a player can develop.
Henderson is without question one of the most improved midfielders in the premier league, and statistically for success in; pass, assist, tackling he is the top English midfielder. He is also a great leader by all accounts from people who know him in the media.
Yet when selected for England and before a balls even kicked he's being criticised and given stick by "England fans", certainly cant call them supporters as they don't support.
The problem is sub consciously all the negativity against England players will affect performance.
All different club supporters need to unite and Support England as a whole before anything on pitch will progress.

Lots of us don't support England because among other things:

  • England are crap,
  • the players don't care,
  • they pick players playing only for the top teams rather than the best players
  • the team fails terribly at every opportunity
  • players past their best are constantly picked on name alone
  • we pick chuggers who offer nothing except athleticism and solidity - especially in midfield
  • tactically we look old fashioned
  • technically we arent good enougth
  • the football is dull, slow and insipid
  • the FA are clowns
  • performances recently have been dire

the media expect us to eat up all the crap they serve about how good England are and the FA expect us to pay through the nose to watch rubbish and you wonder why people don't support like good little boys.

The FA and the England team don't deserve our support.

Henderson, on Tuesday night, was a great creative influence...for Slovenia. He was lucky Hart was having a good night; his sloppy passing gave Slovenia two one-on-ones and a host of other decent chances.

That's my point, he was being criticised by large sectors of supporters pre match. I know when I'm criticised pre match I do one of two things, the best game of my life or worst! The reason I try hard to impress those critics. Sometimes it reflects in trying too hard and messing up, resulting in a awful game.

or he just isn't very good ;)

I think he is an unspectacular chugger who isn't of international standard other than in the most workman like roles.

I am fairly certain Henderson wasn't trying to impress anyone. Any decent sports psychologist will tell you to shut out external influences you cant control and focus on what is good about your game and what makes you perform well.

What really annoys me is that whilst we aren't a fantastic team with some pride, team work, organisation and desire ( See Wales or Northern Ireland or Iceland) we could and should perform better than we do. Please don't get me started on beating Mighty Malta 2-1. A German reserve side would smash them out of sight by 6 or 7 and if we are pretending to be a decent side 0-0 v Slovakia isn't good enough.

My view the players simply do not care. It means nothing to them and they expect to turn up time and again. International football is a jolly boys outing for them with the opportunity to get better personal endorsements that come with being an international footballer. I would rather we picked a team of no hopers from the Championship or below who cared, were honoured to play for England and wanted to perform for England than those we choose now.

I'll discard this entire post as written by someone unaware  you've already admitted that though. You've the Malta score wrong, and the 0-0 opposition wrong. Slovakia was Big Sams one and only game!

I don't care who it was: Slovakia/Slovenia/San Marino/Senegal or Saudia Arabia. We should beat them all handsomely. Brazil or Germany or Spain they are not.

He plays for Liverpool, if he can't deal with a bit of barracking at his level then he needs to put his big boy pants on and learn to deal with it.

I agree that barracking your own players is never helpful. But the responsibility for playing as badly as Henderson did rests with Henderson, not the fans who'd paid a lot of money to watch that nonsense.

I disagree. I think you can accuse them of many things, but a lack of desire isn't one.

I think they're too weak mentally because they've been cossetted as Special Snowflakes since they were six or seven in the academies, and I don't think they know what to do with the pressure of playing for England.

Yet i look at the England rugby players and it seems to matter to them. I don't get that sense from many of the England players

I agree and i think they lack leaders of real substance

WHY should we beat them all handsomely? A football game is 11 v. 11 and sometimes the underdog (Iceland for example) wins- at club level this is one of the game's major appeals but somehow the response to the same at internationals, especially from England supporters, seems to forget this.

England have no more right to qualification than Gibraltar, inventors of the game or not. To say "England should be beating the likes of Slovenia/Slovakia/Scotland" is arrogance of the highest order. It reminds me of those Newcastle/Leeds/Villa supporters who ring 606 and say "We should be beating the likes of Preston/Huddersfield/Barnsley/Burton": Well guys, you didn't beat "the likes of us" so deal with it!

It isn't arrogance - it is fact. England, ranked 12 in the world should be beating these teams IF we are to have pretensions of being a good team. In our group we have:

  • Lithuania ranked 117
  • Slovenia ranked 67
  • Scotland ranked 44
  • Slovakia ranked 28
  • Malta ranked 176

Simply: we should be better than them. We have players playing at a much higher level, in much tougher leagues, with much better coaching and at much better clubs. These should all be easy international games for a decent side. The fact England struggle so much should tell us something.

And yes Villa, Newcastle etc should beat Huddersfield in most games and do so quite easily. They are bigger clubs with better players and higher resources. The underdog wins because the biggerr club is ill prepared, disorganised, disinterested, lacks the right mental approach, a desire to work even harder than the opposition and lacks the stomach for a fight. Like England. Of course an underdog can win. We should ask why England let the underdogs win quite so often!

Arrogance is fine if you have the ability to pull it off. Do you think Germany worry about playing anyone in their group. I doubt it. Do you think their media buy the "there are no easy games in international football" rubbish? They know they can and will win most games easily. They certainly would not be happy with a 0-0 in Slovenia! Why are we?

I would like to point out that Salford finished 3rd in the Evo Stick Premier last season. Darlington (Champions) finished 14 points ahead of them and they finished 9 points adrift of Blyth. We beat them. Twice. We even gave them a start in both games.

It seems that Salford City have no difficulty in obtaining as much media coverage as they want, as the latest reporting gem is one that sees Paul Scholes expressing a view that the Championship is a current target for the club.

Just because new "standing only" plans are afoot for new stands at Salford City, that seems a tad shortsighted.

Class of 92 innit?

They could get to that kind of level with long term financial backing. We are still above them in the league even with injuries and a new ground to pay for ;)

No reason why it couldn't be, look at Fleetwood Town. A bit of money and a bit of nous goes a long way in the lower leagues.

As for standing only stands, it'll be interesting to see whether the trial at Parkhead is expanded into England. The rail seating there is working a treat.

Latest news/picutres on the new home ground for Darlo.

I'm sure this has been asked before, but how come Darlington don't play at the Arena? Is it due to the bad history of the place, are Mowden Park asking for too much money, or is it something else?

Too much money I guess...

When we went down to the Northern League I dont think it was deemed feasible to play there, hence why we moved to Bishop.

I dont think Mowden have been interested a great deal, although we did play a couple of friendlies there in July this year.

Thats my opinion, there'll be better people to answer better than me

Get the lid back on those worms! How we came to not own our own ground is salutary lesson for other clubs. May I direct you to the following articles.

WSC: Darlington's story offers hope to other troubled clubs
http://www.wsc.co.uk/wsc-daily/1156...n-s-story-offers-hope-to-other-troubled-clubs

and

Guardian: Death knell prepares to toll for Darlington FC

https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...rlington-insolvent-arena-trust-administration

We didn't go back as, essentially, we didn't own the ground as it had been repossessed (see Guardian), couldn't afford to buy it, couldn't afford the rent, couldn't afford to run it and it is frankly a horrible place to watch football!

(Note 1: my views on Reynolds, Houghton and Singh best go unrecorded for fear of libel. )

(Note 2: The ground is now owned by Darlington Mowden Park Rugby Club who, it is said, are making money from the facilitates. I wonder why the former owners couldn't do that.................

Current use: https://groundhoppersblog.wordpress...-a-white-elephant-for-darlington-mowden-park/)

Mowden Park bought the ground for £2m from the receivers, having sold their old ground for £6m to housing developers. So I understand why Mowden Park ended up playing in front of three-figure crowds in one of the biggest rugby stadiums in the country.

I just wondered why Darlington 1883 ended up in Shildon then in Bishop Auckland. Presumably Mowden Park wanted too much money to host Darlington 1883 games?

And yes, the less said about Reynolds the better. I wouldn't trust the guy to sell me a vending machine...

We never actually played a league game at Shildon and had to pay them to get out of the deal when it became clear the ground was able to meet certain league criteria. We also played home game sat Spennymoor last season when Bishop Auckland was flooded. As for the Arena I am not sure we wanted/could afford to go back or that the rugby club wanted to have us. Mowden actually bought the ground from the people who repossessed it after the former chairman of DFC failed to pay them!

Reynolds was the least bad of the three. Houghton and Singh have a lot to answer for.

Ched Evans has today been found not guilty in his retrial.

just read some of the legal details of the case - very different from the impression I got from superficially reading or hearing news reports about it. For example, I didnt appreciate that the lady concerned never accused the defendant of rape - she had no memory of what happened. As so often in these cases there are two victims with both Ched Evan's and the lady's lives ruined
