Trying to book GroupSave tickets on GWR in November 19th, Taunton to Cardiff, but can't find any. I know some dates are restricted, but there is no evidence that this is a restricted day.
The National Rail website have a GroupSave page showing restricted dates, with no dates at all in 2016 listed!
I've also tried several other dates in November just to see if Group Save tickets are available, but can't find any at all.

Am I doing something wrong perhaps?
When I've previously booked GroupSave, there has been no need to select GroupSave, it just appears automatically as an option when selecting 3 or 4 people.
I can't find anywhere to "select" Group Save tickets on National Rail or GWR websites, and no tickets are appearing, and there is no list of restricted dates. Have they been stopped at the moment?
Or could somebody tell me how to do it please?

I think you may be looking at fares that are set by crosscountry who dont participate in groupsave and looking at the date required, for 3 of you that is nearl half the price of the anytime anyway

Rugby International at Cardiff that day so there will be pressure on capacity.

No groupsave bar for rugby at present. The XC answer given earlier is the partly the correct one but it seems because ATW price TAU-CDF the computer is saying no. If you put in WSM-CDF priced by GWR you get Groupsave quoted.

The pricing people at ATW aren't too bad, I'll drop them an email for you.

Even with ATW setting the anytime fare theyre still not going to get it cheaper than the advances currently available with XC even with a GS discount.

For a day return, there's a small saving to be had splitting at Bristol, which has the side effect of allowing Groupsave (both GWR priced).

ATW price TAU-CDF

Apologies for being slightly off topic, but how on earth has that happened considering it is GWR who run the TAU-CDF through service, and even if you changed at Bristol you'd still be pretty unlikely to use an ATW service for any part of the journey!

Looking at London - Cardiff on the GWR WebTIS "mixing deck" for the date in question, GroupSave is showing as valid on all departures from Paddington and the "GroupSave Calendar" is blank. Could this be a feature of the Direct Award franchise (i.e. the abolition of restricted dates)?

Probably a throwback to the days of Wales & West!

BRI-CNM is GWR priced, when would you realistically actually get a GWR through train............? Might explain the unreal low CDR price £9.10. Loads of those anomalies, intentional or otherwise, exist....

Got a response today. Groupsave does not apply on ATW code "AW" CDRs. (BRFARES expert mode shows incorrectly). Internet and journeyplanner show correctly. "STAR" will physically issue the ticket but that doesn't make it valid.

Split it at WSM or BRI is my advice !!!

Brilliant!

Don't you just love it when the rail industry would have got more money if they'd priced things a bit more sensibly in the first place, then when people do some investigating as to why the price is too high, they end up finding a way to make it even cheaper!

Indeed; loads of them up North too!

I suspect the creator of BRfares.com will be along shortly to post on this subject ;)

Would have been already, but I can't see anything in the fares database as to why Groupsave discount isn't being allowed on the through GWR services between Taunton and Cardiff, so I'm very confused. As far as I can see it's not just the AW-restricted CDR fare that booking engines aren't allowing the discount on - the 8A SVR is similarly affected.
