Well, I get up at 0545 for school (I take the bus, and I live a fair bit away) but in general, I don't sleep for long periods: could go to bed at 2300 after a long play on the Xbox or PC, and wake up at 0600, not a bit tired, and go back to the video games...:)

I remember when I was a teenager - I could go to bed drop off and remain asleep until at least 6am the following morning. Now if I manage to go to sleep straight away and not have to get up to use the toilet or sip some water during the night, I feel like I've performed a miracle.

On days that I am going work I set my alarm for 4.50 am and get up then, however even on non working days, I still get up about that time or maybe by 5.15. It's not too much of a hardship, although a bit easier in the spring/summer. My mates think it's mad getting up then if you don't need to, but I can get a lot of things done before the day had really started, then be a bit more leisurely for the of the day.

The chap at my local ticket office get up at 4 am even on non working days too.

Does anyone else enjoy getting up early?

I have not gotten up early for years and years. I normally get up between around 10:00 to 12:00. Normally i work 16:00 to 00:00 shifts so i end up going to bed much later at around 02:00.

I usually work 06:00 - 12:00 shifts so it's normally a 04:30 alarm for me on work days. On my days off I usually end up waking up at about 7 naturally but don't usually bother getting out of bed until 9 or so. Like others in this thread, I do enjoy walking around cities in the small hours when nobody is about!

Like many other university students I am primarily nocturnal, less so these days to be fair, so I'm typically in bed for 0200 or later. My alarm is set for 0815, however it normally gets turned off if I'm not doing anything that day and I actually get up closer to 1000. I have no problem with the odd 04xx alarm or similar, however they are a lot more bearable in June than they are around this time of year  I probably should get into a routine of going to bed at a sensible hour and rising earlier in the day, alas I've tried and never managed to sustain it.

I will echo what others say though, I do like the feeling walking around town or a big station early in the day. I remember doing it in Glasgow at about 0630 one Saturday a few summers ago and the city centre was in perfect daylight, but absolutely deserted.

In Retirement.
After a lifetime of early starts to get to work on the railway. I find that in retirement my body still seems to prefer me to get up at 6am, and gets achy if I lie in.

I'm really not a morning person but working from 8am and having to travel 23 miles to get there, early mornings are a necessity. On a weekend, it isn't unusual for me not to really see morning.

On the other end of the spectrum I've always been a night owl!

My job used to be 8:30am start so getting up around 7am - 7:30am although one day a week I was on a shift doing 11:30am start which was much better for me personally

Ever since I left in April I usually wake up at 12 - 1pm and can't get off to sleep until around 4am, so I still get roughly the same sleep as someone else just in a different time period!

It'll be a total killer when I manage to get another job though, unless I find one with different hours!
