Could anyone help please?

My uncle's friend said he saw a train passing coastbound through Chatham during the week. Apparently it was a red (EWS?), possibly class 37 hauling six green coaches with small windows, about two foot square. Unfortunately he can't remember what day it was and they're the only details of the train.

Any ideas?

Thanks

DJ

If you could narrow down to the day we could check RealTimeTrains to have a look. Certainly not the Royal Train, its maroon, not green.

Thank you both, certainly not royal train but could've been a 67. I'll try and get him to remember the day.

That looks like the only thing that ran during the week through Chatham that ran that was out of the ordinary.

Some more digging and that looks like it is 1Y46 Victoria - Folkstone West which I think is the UK portion of the London - Paris Venice Simplon Orient Express. Probably top and tailed with 67s.

Thank you for that. Wasnt sure if that was still running or if it was green. Will offer that as the identity.

Actually just looked at some pics and think the VSOE would still be Pullmans, so probably not the one.

Six green coaches? the Hastings DEMU fits that part of the puzzle perhaps, also the windows on the original parts of the unit do appear smaller especially compared to more modern stock and conventional mk1s, only problem then is what was the locomotive?

Hastings unit was an idea but agreed about the loco. Did a quick check but didnt see any tours last week, even one it could have failed on.
