Turns out Gareth Southgate will now have an 'interview' for the England job on Monday.......

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/38026297

Gareth Southgate will meet Football Association officials on Monday for what will effectively be his interview to become the next England manager.

Southgate completed an unbeaten four-game spell as interim manager after the departure of Sam Allardyce with a 2-2 draw with Spain on Tuesday.

He will hold talks and present his case to FA chairman Gregg Clarke, chief executive Martin Glenn, technical director Dan Ashworth and two other independent members of a panel, Howard Wilkinson and Graeme Le Saux.

The meeting is expected to take place at St George's Park and the final decision will be taken by Clarke, Glenn and Ashworth, with Wilkinson and Le Saux invited to give their input into the process.

The FA have previously stressed there is no time frame on the appointment and, at this stage, no other interviews have been lined up.

A normally awful and unreliable tabloid is reporting that if successful he will ditch Rooney from captain for defying him and remaining at the wedding party on Saturday getting steaming drunk. I also wonder if there was a real injury for him being dropped on Tuesday against Spain.

Why read an awful and unreliable tabloid ?

Rooney is a drinker and I believe he has a problem with it (though not to the level of alcoholism). He has an awful lot of unexplained absences both for club and country.

Wasn't that part of the reason how he tried to explain away the Rent-A-Granny back in Everton days?

It would be interesting in legal terms to see how the FIFA rules regarding shirt worn emblems of the type referred to in the rule book can actually cover the significance of a poppy emblem that symbolises those fallen in battle.

Especially when the poppy is a sign of peace and peace is what FIFA promotes... that and its bank accounts

How dare the rules be enforced equally for all? It's far easier for our Press to whip up a storm in a teacup to distract the people from other things like the Snooper's Charter. England have played on remembrance day before without fuss which fortifies by belief about this being whipped up by a Press wanting to stoke the fires of nationalism (see Brexit). All subtlety and pretence that wearing the poppy is symbolic of private grief is dead - with social media and poppy fascism one must be seen to wear one.

I am also going to say that with all the furore over this topic and the chairman of the FA saying "we’ll be wearing poppies at Wembley" how many of the players felt able to freely choose not to wear the poppy

Remember that FIFA represent roughly 200 countries and territories and it would be impossible to judge what is political and what is not. I wouldn't be too upset if FIFA banned England and Scotland from the next world cup which, one may recall, was obtained by Russia under suspicious means. Alternatively, let the FA and the Scottish FA put their money where their principles are and boycott the 2018 tournament over FIFA corruption and Russian human rights but I guess that, unlike the poppy, would be political and, more importantly for the FA, expensive

Perhaps though if the FA really wanted to take the higher ground they'd donate all the profit to the Royal British Legion to actually help veterans instead of simply appearing to to do

edit: Meanwhile in a touch of irony the lights went out at the Stadium of Light

Not really a shock considering the way we played that night :( Mind you, the return fixture on the 19th Nov should be interesting, especially as Scunthorpe have scored 23 goals at home so far this season, in only 8 matches (cup games excluded). :P

Scunthorpe 1-0 Oldham

Did you went to today match David? as from Latics twitter account it sound like Oldham were matching Scunthorpe for 66 mins until Green got sent off and then we try and hold on but 10 mins left Scunthorpe finally score thanks to Wiseman.

It look like Bury would be glad they not playing at Kings meadow ground again this season.

Tuesday 15th November (FA Cup First Round Replay)
AFC Wimbledon 5-0 Bury

Saturday 19th November (League One)
AFC Wimbledon 5-1 Bury

Cardiff City 3 - 2 Huddersfield Town

By all accounts a performance that deserved at least a point, unfortunately our inability to defend set-pieces once again has cost us. Now 4th with a goal difference of -2!

Many games were postponed today, including the Ramsbottom United v Hyde United match, but the table-topping Scarborough Athletic did their goal difference the power of good by beating Mossley 8-0 in their home match.

Sadly not, as I've not long got home from work. But a bit of controversy today before the red card by the sound of things. Did Van Veen's shot come back of the post or crossbar, or did it hit the stanchion inside the goal and bounce straight back out?

What are your thoughts on both Murray Wallace (who we could've done with today!) and Duane Holmes, both of whom I feel were let go too soon?

Home for the weekend so managed to finally see York at home.... we lost 2-0 and now sit firmly in the relegation zone. We had plenty of chances, were far the better team and still lost, that stinks of relegation.

Mangotsfield United 1...Winchester City 0 (Powell 6) ABANDONED AFTER 59 MINUTES

Sadly, Winchester City's league game against Mangotsfield United came to a premature end when City's right back Joe Hayward sustained a broken leg and the wait for the ambulance had necessitated the abandonment of the game. Prior to that, Lewis Powell's early goal had given the hosts the lead, with City frequently troubling the home defence.

A 2-0 defeat for Darlo at Telford yesterday caused almost entirely by a moment of silliness from our keeper getting himself sent off for raising his hands to an attacker.

Moments of individual silliness cost games - it is a lesson he will have time to reflect on with a 3 game ban.

They won it on merit and nobody can take that away from them, having said that it was probably the weakest prem for some years.

I think Kante is a big loss to them although as a Chelsea fan I'm delighted that we've got him, we're certainly going very well at the moment and I think Liverpool will be our biggest threat. I think the CL will be a big distraction for City and I expect Arsenal to implode at some point as they do every year, I wouldn't rule out Tottenham though.

They were of course the first new name to be engraved on the trophy since Forest in 1979... I wonder who will be the next, and how long we'll have to wait...

Moses is looking very good at Wingback. Genius of Conte to move him there?

Are you referring to the Premiership trophy, as that was not formed until 1992 and Blackburn Rovers were winners in the 1994-1995 season.

There are a number of former wingers who have adapted to playing in the role of wing-back.

For the first season it was called the Premier League.
Between 1993 and 2007 it was called the Premiership.
Since 2007 it's been the Premier League.

It seems that some people (including managers and players) didn't get the memo in 2007 and have continued calling it the old name.

I'm off to watch Leicester's Champions League game tomorrow, and I'll be getting a GNER train and a Midland Mainline train to get there...

The memo doesn't really matter what we call it, we all know what is meant.
