Hi all :D
Have got an assessment at Southampton soon for a conductor vacancy and have been reading through the practice test material they sent.
Just a couple of quick questions to anyone who has attended the SWT Conductor assessment day recently.
The tests (verbal, concentration etc) I can understand and can practice quite easily and have a good idea what to expect, it's the 'role play' and structured interview that form part of the assessment day that they give no help on! :(
Can I assume that the structured interview is an mmi type interview? - Any tips greatly appreciated :D
What is the 'role play' exercise?
I did ask a SWT conductor last week who had only been doing the job 6 months and she said they didn't do a role play but did a '15 to 1' exercise. I couldn't get much more out of her because she was on board and working at the time. Any one have an idea what she meant? 15 to1 was a quiz game AFAIR

First tip for the interview. Swt have guards...

Second tip. The practice material and being a good candidate will get you through the interview. There will be the usual tell me about a time when you gave/had/did etc. i.e. Competency based interview questions.

Mate I got an assessment too at Southampton but I am not too sure whether they would interview me after the assessment or not. Can you tell me if you had an interview the same day as the assessment or was told to come back another day?

Also, what should I expect from the interview because from reading recent threads, many people have had an intense interview lasting up to an hour!

Just curious...

There should not be any role play or interviews involved in the assessment process. You're interview will be scheduled for a separate date.

On the SWT website it has vacancies for 'Guards' but the practice booklet they emailed me says 'Preparing yourself for conductor assessment'! :D

I thought that as well about the interview, a standard mmi type although swt seem to be quite intense in there interviews.

In the practice booklet they sent it does say that a role play and a structured interview are part of the tests, although it doesn't say they are on the same day it also doesn't say they are not. Why mention something that is not actually part of the assessment day?
Saying that it also says you may be asked to take part in a specially designed interview......
Do you know the interview and role play will be at a later date for a fact?
Thanks for the help so far.

edit:
Sorry, just seen you are a SWT guard so obviously know what the process is!

The pack you recieved is a standard one and not company specific hence the mention of conductors and not Guards. Some companies have a role play as part of the recruitment, SWT don't.

Which depot did you apply for?

That explains it then, thanks!

Wimbledon mate. Any idea what the guard I spoke to meant when she said they did 15 to 1?
So in your experience I will do the tests and should I be successful, be invited for interview at a later date?
Seems a pretty long day (9.15-15.00) though just for tests!

Thanks again. :D

Hi Need2

I went through the guard process about a year ago. It is a long day as long as you get through all the tests. You do a couple, then they are marked and the successful people go forward to the next tests.

I think the fifteen to one remark from the guard is a reflection of the above. Those who get the tests right get to stay in the game. I think that was the point.

If you get through all the tests you'll be invited back for a structured interview.

Good luck.

I got through to interview but that's where I tripped up as I didn't display enough customer service. My advice, show safety knowledge of course but show plenty of customer service.

I'm still in for a driver role with the company though. I'm about to attend my MMI so fingers crossed.

Good luck mate.

I had an assessment with SWT back in April, first test was a quick colour vision check, a maths test, there was a multiple choice reading test, a concentration test, a test on your ability to listen to a message and relay the message to the test administrator. Finally a test to check ability to check and sell tickets. Like others have said, it's like Xfactor. You do 1 or 2 tests, and then regroup. If you hear your name you're going home early.
