Does anyone know what routes GWR drivers at Worcester sign. I'm guessing Cotswold line Hereford to London (HSTs and 180s) and Malvern to Bristol (150s)?

Worcester is a new depot and will be HSS
By time it opens it will be IEP work from Hereford to Padd and possibly some Cheltenham to Padd work 2

Thanks Skinny Dave, any idea how many drivers they're looking to recruit? What does HSS stand for by the way?

HSS stands for High Speed Service. Very unlikely theese drivers will work anything other than new Hitachi trains.
Rumor is that there is 30 drivers needed.

HSS = High Speed & Sleeper

The Night Rivera Sleeper service gets lumped in with the high speed services as well, the loco & stock diagrams get issued under the HSS banner and every time we've had dealings with the Sleeper, we talk to the HSS Train Service Controller.

Yes, there does seem to be a lot of internal interest in transferring there as it will be a nice depot/location. Re HSS, I Always thought it stood for High Speed Service.
Good luck to those applying.

Thanks all, sounds like it'll be a good place to work, new depot, new traction and decent routes as well. Not a bad place to live either!

Presumably there'll be some current GWR drivers after some of those 30 places but still a good chance for anyone applying. Good luck to all!

I think there is an order of priority for applicants, but not sure what it is. I would guess existing HSS drivers would come first, especially those already at Gloucester?

There are (or were) some mixed traction drivers who did HSS work. One of them trained me!

Gloucester does have a small mixed traction link, however all drivers are in west T&C's and Pay so it's more of a senior/glory thing

Those with route knowledge (ie Oxford / Padd LTV men will be considered first then others. I c an see they may get 30 internal applications too be honest.....

OK, I've found out the priority order:

1. Drivers whose depot establishment is reduced by transfer of work to Worcester;
2. Drivers with 2 years productive work at current depot, not used voluntary transfer;
3. As 2., except voluntary transfer has been used;
4. Recruitment of trainee and external qualified drivers.
