The cl375 refurb drags between Derby and Ramsgate (using these same ROG 37s) have no translator or braking force wagons at all ... so how come they are necessary for the 707s?

It always depends if the unit being delivered has its brakes operational as part of the overall consist. Your example 375 is an already tested and approved unit, so it may be practical to connect up its brakes for the move, the 707 may not be ready for that yet, i.e. it is not that far through the approvals process.

I'd imagine the commissioned 375s have fully working brakes, and the class 37 has the equipment fitted to operate them, while the class 707s have not been commissioned and are effectively unfitted, hence they need the brake force runners?

Could also be to do with the fact that they won't have been commissioned on the continental railways, even once they have been over here, so will have to have brake force runners over there, and it is easier to simply leave them on and detach them at depot than at Dollands Moor.

Would you have to be 21 to drive one on their test track?

"The Train Driving Experience is for a maximum of two people (a child must be accompanied by a parent or guardian included in maximum)"

Might that be relevant, as shown on the page?

My 4yo would love to drive one. He's already had a go at tooting the horn on a DLR train and announcing 'this train terminates here' (at Stratford International) when the train manager let him at the controls.

I'm not so sure I'd be as keen to let him into the cockpit the next time we fly somewhere though!

Because the Desiro Cities come through multiple countries on delivery requiring various types of loco to be attached so this was is far easier and cheaper to manage.

It's a bit pathetic that a train operating company offering a train driving experience is proposing to fly people out to a location that's really easily accessible by Eurostar.

Er its a charity event offering up a chance to drive it! They will be looking at the cheapest way of getting people there.

Is the commissioning process different for multiple units from locos? iirc the 66s were commissioned at the docks once unloaded

Funny how all the visits made to and from Siemens are all made by plane by both British and Germans. If it was that simple and fast to get the Eurostar (not that it's direct in anyway) I'm pretty sure it would be being utilised.

Er your assuming that that quote is up to date.

ER. Yes, given that it was in the last issue. Maybe SWT's view has changed so recently but I can't see a fleet of 30 completely new trains being introduced between 17 March and 20 August. Why is the franchise end date so relevant anyway?

Also if the auction winner is from, say, the north of England, or Scotland, flying is vastly quicker, whilst a train based journey would need an extra night's accomodation

Anyone know if the graffiti happened here, or on the continent?

It happened at Clapham where the unit was stored overnight. I have now been reliably informed it's been moved into the shed at Clapham Yard no doubt so it can be cleaned up away from prying eyes. Speaking bluntly, this is what of should of happened in the first place when the unit arrived. The area around Clapham is notorious for graffiti and much of the trackside equipment and bridges on the way to Waterloo have been tagged. Using that siding which is outside of the Clapham Yard boundary fence was just asking for trouble.

Or how about little f*ckers not vandalise property that does not belong to them and have a bit of respect for the world around them .

Good luck with that, I think it'll be a bit easier for SWT just to make sure the 707s are stabled inside the fence

Things change. Stop assuming that info a month old is always set in stone.

Just caught this as I'm heading home through Clapham Jct.
How does someone do that without being caught. Are there times when Clapham Junction doesn't have anyone around much? How would they get there?

It was stored down the very far end of road 49, it's quite isolated and almost next to Wandsworth Town station. It would not be too hard for a determined vandal to get to it without being seen especially at the dead of night.
