As with Tarta Steel and Crown Cork & Seal, Wales is once again adversely affected by job cuts.

Deutsche Bahn (Arriva) freight train drivers are facing redundancy.

How good is the redundancy package? What's can they look forward to?

Are you affected by this and if so, what are your plans for the future ?

They have been given a lifeline by TOC's who have offered job interviews to those who are redundant

Hi Budgie,

It has me confused too.

Teesside suffered a higher number of job cuts (once again), so does that mean England was adversely affected too?

Or is it more relevant because Wales is further south?

Hi KP1978

What I meant by that was, there are fewer Jobs to go round and more candidates for each job due to the freight driver jobs going. There are people waiting in the talent pool and fewer jobs to go round for the already qualified (freight and passenger) drivers.

Hi Darandio,

I can't comment on Teesdale, as I live in Wales where jobs of all descriptions are being lost.

I am aware that up there you're in a similar position to us in Wales, as far as the way the country's wealth is distributed.

Hi tb93,

Yes and so they should be given that chance. It's a shame something couldn't have been done in a similar vein for the South Wales steel industry workers. The vast majority are still looking for new employment and there's little to go round for those guys where they live.

Have the redundancies been finalised then? Last i'd heard drivers were having to apply for their post before any redundancies were made.

Aaaahhhh. Reading between the lines I think I know what you mean. ATW currently advertising for qualified drivers employed by DB across their network.
Im not fully au fait with db cargo but think their main depot is Crewe so potential for Chester, Shrewsbury. All other depots would require the individuals to re locate I assume i.e. 1 hour to depot rule.

Oh okay, so potentially North Wales may be a possible option for them, though it would still require relocating. It's such a shame, I know what being made redundant is like and my brothers are going through it at the moment with the steel industry here in South Wales. Hence the reason I was wondering about the redundancy packages for them. I just hope the road ahead for the drivers affected by this, and their facilities, will be as pain free as possible.

I would say its a good industry to be in for redundancy. Your a fully qualified Driver who can transfer to another FOC/TOC. Relocation could be an issue but this is an industry with huge staff turnover and vacancies at various TOC's all over the country.
