Has anyone any experience with the company How2Become?
They're offering a course in how to become a train driver as per their website. Just wondering if anyone has done this, is it worth the money, is it as useful as they make out?
A few questions there...sorry!

All the information you need is already on this site, if you look for it. You need to have the aptitude, attitude, life experience, transferable skills and live where the vacs are. No training course can provide you with those.

It is a complete and utter waste of money that could be spent elsewhere.

Every aspect of their "course" is available here . . . for free. You definitely don't need it.

Everything you need to know is in the sticky thread at the top of this page.

I agree with JohnFM!
For the computer tests go on YouTube and watch the ATAVT test and you'll have an idea of what to do for that test and also there is a short video on the 2hand control test also but like JOHNFM said everything else is on this forum.

I also have to agree with the previous comments, there's enough info out there on this site, YouTube etc. In my opinion it's a waste of money

Thanks everyone, that's really usefull info. I'll start looking around on here more, I'm new to this so am unfamiliar with the site and some of the terminology. With that in mind, what's a sticky and how do I find it?

A 'Sticky' is a forum term that refers to a thread that is pinned/stuck permanently. They are always seen at the top of the forum page.

http://www.railforums.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17674 That should link directly to the 'sticky'

There is also a search function.

You can't blame them for trying, charging money for info readily available and free elsewhere, im glad I didn't fall for it and found this place instead...

I purchased the how to be a train driver book, coming from outside the industry i found it to contain a lot of good info, combined with the info on this website i got the dream job but would definitely not waste money on a course.

Agreed, I will always recommend the book they sell as it lay la the process out in detail and explains each hurdle in detail and opens your eyes as to how to prepare. It helped me through the process and to get the job. I cant speak for the course but it does seem rather expensive when like others have said, info available elsewhere and you can practice for free in the comfort of your own home

There is nothing in the book that is not on this website in the stickies above. In fact, there's probably less info in the book than what it on the sticky!
