As we enter 2017 i was wondering if any other on hold candidates for trainee drivers at Sheffield have had any updates, heard any rumours or anything on the old grapevine?

ive been in the talent pool since the summer and have heard nothing. A phone call to HR a couple of months ago did result in me being told it would likely be the new year at earliest before anything was heard but im getting itchy feet.

im trying to remain upbeat about the whole thing. what does give me some comfort is knowing a friend of mine was on hold for around 12 months before taking up a position at Leeds recently. He did have to be re-interviewed though as he went beyond the 9 month validity period.

happy new year folks and hopefully will see you on a training course eventually

Hi there, I have been on hold since I passed in June and for Sheffield. I phoned before Christmas and was told it would be likely to be the new year. They are waiting for manning instructions and numbers. It's so frustrating that it is taking this long, I too am trying to remain positive but never the less it feels like it is never going to come off.

You may have been on the same psychometric assessment as me in Manchester?

Cheers

Gareth

Hi gareth. I did all mine about that time too although my assessments were in doncaster. My friend waited around 12 months so theres hope yet knowing it appears pretty much the norm in the industry. What makes the wait worse is when your existing job sucks and you cant wait to politely tell them youre off to pastures new!

Yeah same here, i'm on hold for Sheffield too. A friend of mine who works in liverpool told me he was on hold for 18 months before being offered a course. Guess we shall just have to sit tight and hope for the best ;p

The best advice anyone could ever offer will be to "get a life". (Bear with me, it isn't as it sounds)

Don't sit and wait. You can wait up to two years and even then you might not be chosen if better folk come along!

It has happened whereby newer folk in the pool are chosen as they are deemed to be better choices from the plethora of applicants that got through.

The call might come next week, it might come in two years time!

If you literally sit and wait excitedly for that call, or are stuck in a job that drives you absolutely mad, you may well be mentally unfit by the end!

Go on holiday. Live a life. Have fun. Do stuff. Get a new job.

Just going off topic a bit here, but I'm guessing you must be a ducati rider Karl???
Lovely machine the 998, I guess your job can't be too bad if it gives you the chance to whizz about on one of those!
