Thanks for this!

Any idea why there is a discrepancy in pay? On the advert it states circa 45k when qualified. ASLEF company information page states circa 50k?

It is not a "discrepancy" it is what you are offered.

That's the first year qualified rate. You go up to the full salary in the second year after qualifying.

Successful applicants could be allocated to Selhurst, Norwood, London Bridge, London Victoria, Caterham, Epsom or any future Southern Metro depots. Anyone heard of future southern depot plans?

Hi Guys

A bit of a dilema here, I applied for Southern Trainee Driver in August of last year and my application hasn't been looked at yet. I've been getting regular updates as to tell me they will get to my application in due course.... but seeing the position that came up yesterday has made me think whether they have overlooked my application, or do you guys think I should re apply to the new vacancy (if possible).

Many Thanks

I applied in October and was unsuccessful and one of the first questions is have your applied before in the last 6 months? Is it worth applying anyway?

If you click yes does it allow you to proceed any further? If so, it's a matter of opinion whether it's worth it or not because it may well get thrown straight out of the pile. It also may pass un-noticed and you might have more luck, who knows!

I certainly wouldn't click no.

Does anyone know if Southern are restricting applicants to those within a certain distance/travelling time - or whether they will accept candidates who are willing to relocate?

The recent GTR Thameslink recruitment for Gillingham depot was quite explicit in their advert, requiring less than one hour's travelling time. The SN advert appears silent on this matter, as far as I can tell. Possibly complicated by the fact that they are recruiting for multiple locations...

If you click yes you get booted. As one of my Co workers tried applying. Is it asking if you have applied to southern or just any driver post from other TOCs?

You can't even create a message to send to recruitment to make them aware, It just gives you "Server error" like the application

I had. Completed all the questionnaire and was on the final page of submitting application, when the error page came about. Have not been able to get back on it since.

This happened before?

Was the problem solved?

Has anybody else been able to do the online questionnaire?

The website has been doing this now for 2 days, rather frustrating.

Yes, but each time it happened, it saved the info that i typed. Now it keeps timing out, annoying af!

I've contacted them and will be on the phone to them tomorrow morning about this as I don't want the closing date to come and I was unable to even get an application in.. will update this thread after I hear what they have to say with regards to this server error

If you say you have previously applied you can't continue. If I was to go back and say no, to complete the application obviously I run the risk of having my application thrown out straight away but is it worth just putting it in anyway? On the off chance it might get through the initial shift?

I managed to complete the questionnaire on the day it came out but was unsuccessful ''due to: Your Answers'' which I found quite blunt, yet funny. Although I was a bit surprised having previously answered the same questions for another TOC and passed.

Casey Jones by the time they get back to you it could be 6 months ! might be worth a try, although as much as i want to apply i think they wouldn't be happy if you lied so i will leave it......... :D

I got the same messages about keeping me posted as they have had a lot of applicants and I don't know if I should re apply as they say to wait 6 months. I don't know if this will mess up my chances with the august application?

One of the first questions is (something like) "Have you failed any point of the recruitment process in the last 6 months?"

If you tick yes then you will automatically rejected and cannot go any further in the application.
If you click no and you have, then you run the risk should you get through the first sift of being rejected should they find out later.
Who knows, you could even be thrown out even after being offered and starting a role. Is that what you want, looking over your shoulder?
Tell the truth and wait a few more months for other openings.

Could you give us some a sample of your answers to the questions? People might be able to help you with why they didn't like your answers.
