I thought, like most London fares, they were set by ATOC?

Its tfl rate for journeys between west drayton and paddington and greenford and paddington, london undeground tickets issued from ealing broadway to zone 1 are also valid on the service and national rail tickets issued from greenford to ealing broadway/paddington are also valid on the central line

It's TfL who come up with the fare, but ATOC's responsibility for it to apply to that flow, as I understand it.

Are you sure underground tickets from Ealing Broadway to Zone 1 are valid?

Totally sitting on the fence here, with regards of whether it's actually a good idea for passengers, could the setting of fares be based on who gets the largest ORCATS share?

That would seem a very sensible idea.

Travelcard Seasons from stations between Warwick and Stratford-upon-Avon (inclusive) routed "via Banbury" have been taken over by Virgin West Coast within the past year, with a massive price hike, despite the fact that there's no way to use such tickets on Virgin services without doubling back between Banbury and Leamington Spa!

This has left Chiltern to create new flows routed "via High Wycombe", thus causing an anomaly whereby the point to point tickets are valid for use on CrossCountry and thence GWR into Paddington, but the Travelcard isn't without paying a significant premium.

Hartford to Birmingham is also much cheaper by splitting tickets at Stafford. Given that the entire service from Hartford is run by LM, and presumably priced by them, I suspect that the price differences are more to do with pricing of long distance (especially peak) travel to/from Birmingham compared to pricing of local tickets for shorter journeys.

For Hartford to Birmingham all tickets are priced by LM. For Stafford to Birmingham there are Advance tickets priced by Virgin, ATW and XC so presumably LM try to price their tickets on that flow competitively to try and prevent people buying the Virgin, ATW and XC only tickets which they don't get any revenue from.

VTWC want your custom. XC want you to take the plane. That's partly down to VTWC operating (a majority of) 11 car Pendolinos while XC operates (a majority of) 4 car Voyagers.

If VTWC decided to operate only 6 car Pendo's but double every fare because 'overcrowding' I wonder what people would say..
