These are widely regarded as a waste of money. I'm sure others will be along shortly to substantiate this!
Don't bother. All the information you will need will be on here from guys who are actually doing the job and can help you.
I did it once, many years ago, and most of it was about the application form and interview with a manager. Looking back it was a complete waste of time and money.

Don't waste your time and money on those courses. All you need is available online for free.

Someone gave me the How2become book before my interviews for my current job as a train driver. The book was good, and helpful, but as others have said there was nothing in the book that I hadn't had read on here already.
As for the course, I can't add anything thats not already been mentioned on here already.

The consensus is that you don't need the "course" as it does not give you any more of a boost in your chances than going through a couple of sticky threads on here.
On a more direct, less PC, level the "how to Become" series is a total con taking all of their content from freely available sources such as here.

I looked into them, and actually bought one of the downloadable practice packs (group Bourdon) I think it was £14 IIRC , this I found useful as I printed out about 60 sheets and practiced them a lot.
They are quite pushy though , and I still get 2 emails a day trying to flog me other things , ranging from full courses to downloadable material.

But you can get the GB for free too! Sticky at top of Careers page on here.
To the OP: Save your money and don't waste it on this drivel - all the info you'll ever need is out there and free!!
