I'm in London tomorrow and staying with a friend in Langley (Berks). The National Rail portal indicates that some trains are replaced with RRS to Ealing Broadway. Is it quicker / cheaper to go to Ealing Broadway by tube (given I will have Oyster of some sort - will get on the day).

Also is this the FGW networker stock routes?

Going to Langley, you'll be on a 165/1 or 166.

Not sure what they're doing at Paddington, but it's some sort of engineering work which seems to be limiting the amount of stuff travelling on the relief lines. Not got any details, but depending where you are on the network it may be quicker to get to Ealing Broadway on the Underground and get the connection there.

Trains to Langley should be 165, or possibly but less likely a 166.
Getting to Ealing Broadway, it depends where abouts you are as to what the quickest option is.
Oyster is valid on BR out to Ealing Broadway, although I'm not sure how you tap in and out on a replacement bus. I would advise you to ask the staff for help. So on the price question, Ealing Broadway is in zone 3, so the Oyster single from inside zone 1 on both LUL and will cost £2.20.

They are replacing a set of points from friars loop to the up relief (the down was done last weekend) so relief lines are shut, with a limited service running on the mains.

not working this weekend and my WON is at Pad so can't check it til i get in on wed;)

165s and 166s seem to be a common fleet on FGW now. Certainly I haven't seen any attempt to keep either fleet on or off particular services. Not like the 'Thames Express' services of old!

They do all London-Thames Valley services, as well as about 3 Worcesters in a day, along with the Banbury service. Also Gatwick/Basingstoke/Bedwyn-Reading.

If you think about the old First Great Western Link franchise, that is Turbo operation.

True. The 165s and 166s can seemingly crop up on any Turbo diagrammed service these days This can be a problem, as the 166s are more first class heavy and have additional luggage racks. Case in point- the 07:56 from Twyford-Paddington (originating Henley) is full and standing if a 166 turns up, but if a 165 is used there are a few spare seats. I wonder if and when FGW refurbish them whether they'll share a common interior.
