Does anyone know where I could possibly get one of these old signs from.
I have got Five gentlemen signs, but have not ever been able to find a ladies at auctions or on the net. Are they very rare now.
Thank you for any information.

You'd be amazed what stuff comes up on eBay, I'd keep an eye out every week.
Personally I've never seen a tangerine toilet sign but hope you find what you're looking for soon

"Ladies" signs may be rarer than "Gents" as the ladies toilet was often in a ladies waiting room therefore not needing its own sign. You may be more successful looking for "Ladies Waiting Room" sign.

Tangerine was of course the sign colour for the old North Eastern Region (1950 to 1968) so a search in that area will give the best results, somewhere like the NYMR or even the NRM at York.

Thanks for making that clear - I was wondering if the female fake tan phenomenon dated back further than I had previously thought. :)

It was a particularly bright tangerine (the official term) orange, and being used to the dark brown on the Western, and also familiar with the dark red of the London Midland, first sight was coming over Standedge and seeing the stations down to Huddersfield and beyond, with enamel nameboards, double-sausage signs, etc, all in bright orange. At York, NER timetables were available to purchase at the W H Smith on the concourse. That had a bright orange cover as well, and unlike the WR timetable of the era, plain (brown) cover, there was a racy artwork drawing of a Deltic on the front.

The modern railway!
