I have finally found reference to a queueing system being put in place for the unreserved seats. So no, not a scrum..... just a long wait, potentially in the cold.

Is there a reference you could post please for the benefit of others here?

Anyone know what the coaching stock is? I only ask because apparently it originates from Burton On trent Wetmore Sidings, which is where the blue and white stock came from the was used for 2 football specials last weekend, one Sat , the same stock used Sunday , and it returned to Burton Ot Wetmore Sidings.

Here's wishing this whole venture is a 100% success fore everyone concerned, with no loco failures and no trespass etc. That way, who knows, Northern might consider doing something again.

Look forward to reading positive reports (though I still think it's too soon to properly pbulicise the re-opening of the S&C )

As the link to the rake doesn't seem to work anymore, can anyone tell me whether they are sealed up aircon Mk2s or the earlier variety with opening (sliding) windows please?

They are aircons (Anglia livery). There aren't many early Mk.2 variant coaches left on the main line, just a few with Vintage Trains and WCRC.

Regarding the Settle and Carlisle Day Ranger ticket- it does work in the barriers at Leeds even at this early hour.

Iskra - thanks for that, it never occurred to me that the day ticket would work the barrier.

You are starting early!

I'm going to be early tomorrow, but not like this. I'm just giving mysellf easy connections to get to Skipton in plenty of time to see Tornado arrive.

Hope you have a good day. I'll be particularly interested to read about how the non-reserved passengers get on (oh look, a pun!) especially at intermediate stops. And whether you find room to get served in an Appleby pub/cafe.

It was mentioned on the "Today" programme on Radio 4, so there's been plenty of publicity.

Non reserved passengers have got on fine as I don't think this train is full. Northern are enforcing reservations strictly and there are lots of staff plus a BTP officer.

I didn't get time to go into Appleby but I think there will be plenty of room. The friends of Settle-Carlisle have set up a stall with hot drinks and snacks on the platform.

Plenty of folk around. Lots of wheelslip coming in to the platform ECS with 67029 Diamond Jubilee providing ETS. Non reserved coaches by the loco heading South.

I wonder if there are any 'normals' on the train at all?

Folks just wanting to travel, bought a ticket, find this jamboree going on, and can't work out what the fuss is all about :)

there are several people i am know going simply for a ride on a steam train for a decent price - they have no real interest in trains but have seen a way to have a half term treat with the kids/grandkids.

BBC Breakfast were live at Appleby for the departure of the 0825
I understand the 0947 from Leeds is a single 158 which may be a bit cramped!

All reservations are gone.

This is incorrect. I booked on and reserved a seat on the 17.15 ex Skipton for Thursday at the weekend, and having tried to do so again today, have found it is still possible. Not sure where these scare stories of no reservations left originate from.
