The retiming of the peak shorts to run ahead of full services is a most welcome change. Hopefully this will see usage more evenly spread!

I wonder what the new peak stock requirement is? ~74?
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
Also, a fantastic change to the timetable for those living on North Tyneside! 3 of the later services which used to terminate at Manors now terminate at Monument P4!

Had a look at the Manors timetable, and it suggests the Monument ones depart Manors P1, and terminate Monument P4? Surely that can't be right?!

Now that would be interesting! Either the trains will terminate at MMT P3, which might be more logical as can't they then depart to Manors then back through the curve?

Actually, while we are talking about this, can someone provide a bit more information about the curve please, I'm probably wrong but is there a set of points coming out onto Manors P1 towards the Coast only and another set off the loop into Manors sidings?

Will terminate platform 3 at Monument and empty back to Manors.

There is a set of points at the western end of Manors platform 1 which leads to the curve. The sidings are at Stoddart Street and have access from both platforms at Manors.

No sidings on the curve itself apart from a loop at old Jesmond station.

Have seen 4002 shunting at the depot this morning with its pantograph raised, possible return to use imminent?

4040 and 4083 have also been in service all week

4001 has been on the same line in the shed for a quite a while now mind. I wonder if we will ever see a day when all 4 unrefurbished units are running - probably not.

How has everyone found the new timetable?

Don't get me started on that. I have multiple issues, but here are the main two.

I've went through it and actually noted the changes and after 5pm in the evening peak every single additional train terminates at South Gosforth. It's went from 21 (18?) extra peak services down to 14. In the old timetable the majority (and I mean majority, only 2 or 3 I think exceptions) went to Monkseaton or Regent Centre. This has provided a drastic decrease in service for those travelling around towards The Coast when demand is actually increasing on that stretch.

My other issue is that on a late evening I finish work late (2200, but was always allowed to leave at 2157 so I could make the train) and because the train now runs 2 minutes earlier (arrives 2201, used to be 2203) it means I now always miss the train. Since last week I have now bought a bus ticket and will be trying that out. So far the bus is actually better - wifi, quieter, quicker(only be around 5 minutes and there is the potential for traffic), feels safer, and clean! It's also cheaper - just. Today there was the train failure which resulted in trains being suspended Airport to Gosforth, I was on time into work. My friend was 1 hour late - they took the Metro from Wallsend around The Coast and then had to get a replacement taxi.

I will probably switch back to Metro (simply because I have other places to get too that buses don't go to - Airport for example), but it's definitely a major hassle and if I had the money I'd be learning to drive and just driving instead.

I have no confidence in the service at all now and the timetable change is just an easy way to make ppm look better.

It hasn't made much difference generally, for much of the time it's still 4/5tph, it doesn't really matter when. However the last peak train to Monkseaton now leaves Haymarket at about 5.30pm. This has noticeably made the Coast trains busier in the second half of the evening peak, and really was very short-sighted given that trains to the Coast via Four Lane Ends are some of the busiest on the entire network, and are only getting busier with the huge housing developments in North Tyneside. I hope they change it back, though the fact there are more peak trains before 5pm is helpful.

Probably so either 4040 or 4083 can relax, as they're out today again. Anything on 4002 ever coming back?

My metro was taken out of service this morning between Heworth and Felling because of a technical fault. Anyone know what it was?

Assume it was the same one I saw run empty through Gateshead around 8.30am, cars 4052 and 4034 on 126 originally for St James.

4052 was in complete darkness whereas 4034 was lit up as normal, so assume some sort of electrical fault?

Sounds about right, im pretty sure i saw someone report a door that kept sticking shut on twitter, they said car 4052 so it could be something to do with that?

****Edit - Just double checked and the twitter post said 4053 although could have been a slip of thumb on phone?? Anyway sorry for the misinformation.****

Ps. Anyone seen 4001? as i was told it was in service this week.

I've note seen 4001 for ages, but 4040 and 4083 have been out quite a bit on the peak shorts (I've had them twice in the last week).

Neither have I, since last September, i asked nexus through email and they said 4001 would be in service this week. Still haven't seen it though. Tbh I'm probably just looking at the wrong times as i haven't seen 4040 and 4083 either aha.

Just an update on my 4001 messages, so i found out the number i was given by Metro was the customer relations number and during my call to them i was told that they don't actually have the information on what cars are in service! To top it all off i sent another Email to the person who originally replied and got an auto response saying they are out of office until June 20th 2016, as we all know THIS DATE HAS LONG GONE!! I think I'm just going give up and face that 4001 is probably dying (Along with Metro's communication) and I'll probably not see her again, although if i do it would be great :D

4001 was in the shed and has since been removed as far as I could see. They'll probably be back but the reduced need for for trains and that they only run 1 set of unrefurbished trains means it may be a while!

Was this one yeah! Driver came to an abrupt halt between Heworth and Felling, tried a few things like turning power off and on, then finally just crept into Felling 1mph and took it out of service.

Metro I went for today broke down too. They said the next one will be in 8 mins, but that one then went through without stopping. All the while they were announcing 'We are currently running a good service systemwide, with no reported issues'. Unlucky 2 days in a row, but won't knock them too much as it has been the first issues I have encountered in a long while.

Yes, the prototypes, 4001 & 4002 were not planned to be refurbished. The refurbishment programme then ran out of money & needed major cutbacks to the specification, consequently 4040 & 4083 were not refurbished. 4083 was hit by a bus in the 80s so may be a contributing factor to that unit not being sent.

4040/4083 we're out on 110 or 111 yesterday; not sure if it was just extended due to the disruption though.

Nice to see 4040/4083 (152) today. 4040 was in fantastic condition! Apart from smelling like urine , the doors and other equipment seems to be working faultlessly!

My thoughts go out to the member of staff assaulted at Regent Centre today - about time the unions did something about one man staffing at that station!

Does anyone know the cause of the issue with signal 105? Is is the circuit, points, signal or something else causing the fault? Must be something a little more difficult to fix or requiring parts as the signal as been playing up for a day or so now.

Seem to be a lot of problems lately. Just proceeded at 1mph from Monument to Haymarket with all the lights on in the tunnel, driver announcing it was because of a reported track defect.

When did Sharon Kelly (now Keith) leave DBRTW to become the Arriva Rail North Regional Director? She'll be bringing a lot of fantastic management and decision making experience over... ;)

That must've been a long journey. 1 hour to go that short distance, should've walked it ;)

Last year I believe it was.
