It must be the only lift in the world where the passenger limit is less than the number of passengers that will fit in it. Every other lift I have been in you wonder how on earth you fit the maximum number of people in.

Not my experience, I must say.

I use those lifts every morning. Although the plate says 8 people, and you can just about squeeze 8 people in if you are really good friends, the weight limit is something around 550 KG so won't move if there are more than 6 people in it.

As for there being 10 people in there. Nonsense, unless they were sitting on shoulders.

Maybe not on the railways, because they probably assume most people will have luggage taking up the space of another person (which none of the KGX folk appeared to), but I have been in hotel lifts where you can touch all the walls without moving your feet and it says "maximum 8 persons" or something equally optimistic.

Why was such a drama made about getting the train from the depot to KX when the set wasn't booked to be used for nearly 6 hours?

If there was a possesion booked I would have expected that to be mentioned in the program.

They don't. Tiny lifts where you can't fit the maximum 8 people, and if you did each person has to weigh 65kg or less with no allowance for luggage.

It would be more intelligent to show a lower limit of 6 people, and that might stop a few arguments of people trying to push on going "it says 8" and then having to get off when the overweight alarm sounds.

They did say they'd tried and managed to open the outer doors, but the inner ones failed to budge. All interlocked I imagine just like signalling and most train doors.
Staff where I work would be trained to manually lower the lifts (or initiate some other procedure) to let trapped customers out. No such trained staff present on site and the lifts would be out of service.

They seem awful quick to hand out them claim your fair back ticket things!!!
Also the lack of communication when the broken down train came in and they didn't realise that the passengers were still on it

To be fair in my (admittedly limited) experience I travelled down to Kent last year and my train was around 15 late into York and got delayed further enroute, it was met by staff at KX handing out delay repay forms. No choccy bars though!

Some of the people in the lift were probably fit enough to use the stairs. It is frustrating when people who cannot avoid lifts ie wheelchairs/buggies have to queue while fit people use them. And yes I am well aware that not all disabilities are obvious, and fit looking people may have conditions not visible, before I am shot down in flames.

Some of the people in the lift were probably fit enough to use the stairs. It is frustrating when people who cannot avoid lifts ie wheelchairs/buggies have to queue while fit people use them. And yes I am well aware that not all disabilities are obvious, and fit looking people may have conditions not visible, before I am shot down in flames.

Judging by the way they sprinted for the cross platform train, I would surmise that even if they had hidden disabilities they weren't of the impaired mobility type.

That is the lift from the platform level to the footbridge, where there are no stairs; only a single escalator which runs in the down direction; so anyone going 'Up' has to use the lift.

I have weak knees and find stairs are a particularly awkward angle[1]. I am however a (mediocre) rock climber and distance runner.

I've had people comment on why I'm using the lift before. Not everything is as it seems.

[1] I am quite fit so actually find it easier to run up flights of stairs than walk up them. However that only works if I get a clear run at them, so if it's busy I prefer the lift.

I do think those weights are ridiculously low these days, and particularly in a railway station with luggage a higher figure should be used, perhaps 80-85kg. With me (if I have a heavy wheely case) it's likely to be twice that though! :)

I thought if a lift was overweight, the doors would not close anyway?

Exactly, which is what happened this morning when Mr Knobhead pushes in when there are already six people in the lift, saying "plenty of room", and then looked disbelieving when he was told it wouldn't move as it was no overweight.

At least it was Mr Knobhead today, unlike last week when it was Mrs Knobhead who took umbrage at the suggestion she was making the lift too heavy...

Was watchable enough. I did think the depot manager swearing frequently was excessive, you think they'd watch their tongue when in front of the camera.

What's wrong with that?

Because it makes a mockery of the advance ticket system.

If people can purchase a ticket at a reduced rate to the norm, but then use any train they wish by playing the emotional card, then why stipulate a particular train they need to catch?

I appreciate there will on occasion be circumstances where discretion is needed, but as the previous poster pointed out, this could lead to all kind of chancers trying it on with the waterworks.

Her recovery was almost as fast as a footballer once the referee has blown the whistle for a free kick.

I'll let them off featuring the York signalling centre, but I found it odd staff at Leeds were included in a programme called "Inside Kings Cross"

Especially as a series featuring East Coast staff throughout the route had already been made and shown on Sky One.

Seems to be half Inside Kings Cross/half Inside VTEC. Only Network Rail and VTEC staff have appeared so far though, surely staff/depot operations from GN should also appear?
