OK. Which British standard gauge heritage railway has at least 3 stations that were open when BR closed the line originally, but did not reopen when the heritage railway took over ?

Well I'll take a guess at the East Lancashire railway? I was reading about it recently and saw that there were a few disused stations on it. I can remember one as being Stubbins? Can't remember the others without looking it up though.

Having just travelled this way on Closed Stations Journey Quiz, I'll have stab at the Severn Valley Railway, with Eardington, Alveley and Foley Park?

Hmm. The one I had in mind was the East Lancs with Broadwood, Stubbins, Ewood Bridge and (arguably) Bury Knowsley Street.

I meant to ask for the names of the stations involved, but see I forgot.

The Severn Valley also meets the criteria (I forgot about Alveley), and the names were given.

Can you sort out the overgrown platform between you please ?

Thankyou Mr Cowley, you are obviously the perfect gentleman! :D

This is a question regarding the Ivatt (LMS style) 2-6-2 tank Locomotives, one of them had a special distinction and also had an attachment fitted regarding this that no other class members carried, what was it and what was the distinction?

Was it something to do with operating a royal train at some point? Maybe it had some kind of communication equipment fitted? I've no idea really.

Trip-cock to operate on the Met Mainline, the last time one worked on the main line?

Sorry, but that's not what I'm looking for either, a bit of a hint would be that it had this distinction from the moment it was fully constructed.

It's quite possible Peter but not what I'm looking for, if it helps I'll drop in some more clues such as the fact that this particular locomotive spent most of its life working off Bedford depot but in its later years (early 60s) could be found working in North Cornwall, a final clue is the number 7000.

Was the loading gauge (sorry if this isn't the right phrase) reduced in height to allow it to work on a restricted line?

Not really the one I'm after I'm afraid, if you think now is the time to add another clue just give me a shout and I'll gladly oblige.

Well Mr Bridge. I'm sitting on an old bus with Mr Cowley senior and he says he vaguely remembers one having a name, possibly on a red plate. Unfortunately he doesn't remember what the name was.

Ah! Then Mr Cowley senior is the closest yet by a country mile, it wasn't exactly a nameplate but rather a plaque, this is much warmer now so enjoy the vintage bus ride btw. :)

I haven't a clue, really, but let's say it was 41262 and the inscription referred to the 2,000th locomotive built at Crewe Works.

Well I think it would be bit cruel to press for more after all your efforts so I will accept that answer :)

The number is actually 41272 which was the 7000th locomotive built at Crewe Works in 1950, it carried a plaque just below the BR totem on the water tank on each side of the loco, just to add Crewe works actually built its 2000th loco as early as 1876!

Thanks very much ... I'm impressed that I was only 10 out in the number and even more impressed about the Works' output!

Anyway, try this one:

Two GWR Castle Class locos have a separate, but connected, royal connection. What is it, and what happened after the second occurrence?

Here's a clue .... the royal connection was a King (and not the loco!).

Did one of the Kings perhaps drive them both after naming them?

Hm. Would the other one be Windsor Castle then? Not sure of the number 40XX? And the king be George V?
