Hi all,

I used to travel around the various stabling points back in the late 80's but not sure whats what now?

I live in Kent and am hoping to go up to CF Booths at Rotherham to get my long o/s last 56 - 56076 in a week or so's time and wondered where else to go whilst there or on the way

I need loads of 60's so Toton seems a must but what about Knottingley (I loved the rows of 56's and 58's there in the past). Worksop, Shirebrook?

Also, what's Donny station like on a Friday late afternoon/evening, excluding HST/91's?

I only need a few 66's from EWS but a load of the others (FLT, GBRF etc)

Thank you!
Simon :)

Skipton Station is fair good as you've got EWS and FL coal trains going through, GBRf Gypsum trains, EWS Tarmac quarry trains from Swinden Quarry.
The 60's do the Tarmac trains and the others are 66's.
I saw 60011 at Skipton and Swinden Quarry yesterday.

Doncaster's still busy for freight - probably one of the best for quantity, hence why so many go there. I saw a list of trains through there last Saturday and was amazed.

Booths is only open to the public on Saturday mornings (up till about 11-12) - you will need stout shoes, a hi vis and a hard hat. A weekend visit to Midland Road at Leeds is also worthwhile for FL Sheds.

Thanks for all the suggestions.... have just seen on WNXX that 56076 may be already under the torch  I should have gone sooner!? They could have started with another one in the yard! Will use the info if I make a trip tho! Cheers Simon

Its such a shame they are starting to cut up the 56's. Some of them have plenty of life left. The later ones were built in 1984/85.

If you are up at Boothies Rotherham, then a trip to Maltby for the SYJR is within reach. Not much except coal passes through but its always nice and devoid of nutters. Park near signal box and get some good landscape shots across the valley. About 10 trains between 9am and 2pm on a good day with maybe 8 during night! Most however are LH or EWS heavies or empties.

Very dificult place to photograph unless you're lucky enough to work there occasionally! Still all semaphore around the box including a couple of quite new ones erected to replace concrete posts.

SYJR Maltby......nice and devoid of nutters...not nice to please the eye.....nice you get out of the village/town. Still its fairly unique in my experience, semaphore signals, Maltby pit yard is still full of atmospheric shots if you look hard enough.
Go to the old Firbeck Junction while you can, Railtrack have chopped the hedges down flat and you get good panoramic views of stuff coming up the hill 2 miles away!!
Have a pint or 3 at Brookhouse pub and watch the freight rattle across the viaduct.
I dont 'work' there but I do live 10 minutes away and its a hidden gem in this day-and-age, a fully working branch line in 2009!! Plus you can have a nice pint in summer in any of 3 pubs along the line and watch....nice to chill after the nutters who throng at Doncaster.:lol:
