I hold one of these and it has saved me the £9 fee many times over. I was under the impression that I could use it to get a 50% discount on tickets between Inverness-Kyle/Wick and Glasgow Queen Street (GLQ)-Oban/Fort William (FTW)/Mallaig.

I have tried to book a single between FTW and GLQ on the ScotRail website but the site won't offer me a discount unless I select "West Highland Railcard", which I have never heard of. The website's page on railcards only mentions a "Highland Railcard" and advises the following:

The Highland Railcard is available on the following routes:

Mallaig/Fort William/Oban to/from Glasgow
Wick/Thurso to/from Inverness
Kyle of Lochalsh to/from Inverness

So all in all, am I allowed to use my Inverness issued highland railcard on routes to and from Glasgow?

Based on the information available, no. The railcard seems to be intended to provide discounted travel from remote areas to the nearest (by rail) city. For you that would be Inverness.

Ignore the above. For some reason I thought you were traveling from Kyle.

Yes, it does seem that you should be able to get a discounted ticket.

I would say highly unlikely. You hold a Highland Railcard and as far as I can see Glasgow is in the West Central Lowlands.

It is but the railcard can be used from to/from Glasgow QS on the West Highland line.
