Why is there a weird mix of pink and green in the interior was the green an earlier spec that was too late to change?

Also surprised there are some tables I assumed they had none including full sized ones where first class might be on another train

New logos on the sides too

The 357/2s had a different interior spec from the 357/0s; one lot was a pleasant green shade inside and the other lot was a ghastly neon-bright violet / pink interior.

I'd hazard a guess that bits have got swapped between them over the years, resulting in the mix you report.

I believe the first batch were ordered when it was branded 'LTS Rail' with a green paint scheme. The next batch ordered with the new rebranded blue and pink 'c2c' scheme. I was always a fan of that before the rebrand to show NX ownership.

Both have now recieved a refit with mostly newer c2c and Natex colours, except the 357/0s where they have kept the green overhead luggage racks.

You mean the tables in the sections behind the cabs (where 1st class is on a 377 (1-5)) have gone?

IIRC they were full sized on the 0s, half-sized on the 2s

They were full size on the /0's and I always aimed for them. Getting on most of my c2c's at Fenchurch Street or Thorpe Bay meant I usually got one haha

The c2c logo has been centralised again although the national express text is still visible if you look closely

I found the seats very comfortable actually a shame that newer trains have harder seating

Edit around East Tilbury a line branched off where does that go ? Rainham or high speed one?

No they are still there and full sized

I noticed some half sized tables as well

Exactly that, although I couldn't stand the hideous metallic purple shade NX used for C2C. Seems to have been a common theme for NX, given that they went on to use such a similarly hideous shade over on 'ONE'.

If anyone's interested, the first units where delivered in all over white with green doors and a small green band around the lower skirt of the bodyside. These will have had the all green interior. The mid batch units appear to have had a hybrid mix of green seats, blue / pink interior, the later units finally having an all blue / pink interior. I think that's how it was - correct me if I'm wrong!

Standard Chapman seats of the time - as used in anything from 143s, 150s & 158s by Wales & West to 170s and 357s.

Of course the irony I find is that the refurbished /3s were given a Grey/Pink interior by NX which is Oddly very reminiscent of another former NX Franchise, Wessex Trains.

Branch line towards London Gateway container port.

---------

Half sized tables within the bays are useful to put cups of hot drinks on, saves the passenger having to keep hold of it or putting it on the seat

Thames Haven Junction on to the Thames Haven branch now mostly used by services to London Gateway port.

Originally speaking when the 357/0 seats had green covers, green backs and the grabrails were green, the colour scheme worked fine. The 357/2s had the same green seats but blue walls and purple grabrails - it was slightly garish but not that bothersome. Now that they've given all the units grey & purple seats and purple grabrails, however, the 357/0s that still have the green walls and luggage racks really do look a bizarre colour combination.

Didn't the second batch (the NX follow on order) 357s originally have that awful almost plastic like feel seat covering? The first batch with the green seat bases were much better

Very few pictures surface of the original livery ... did the original spec units have green plastic side trim as I have seen pics of green bulkheads and seats etc but purple side trim!

it seems prism launched c2c as a name but shortly before their demise was the pink their doing ? Or is there an old c2c logo

I forget what new trains they are getting but 700s would be perfect
I assume 357s do.not have cameras so rely on station monitors

I'm not aware of the interior actually having changed since introduction until these recent modifications., but I didn't use c2c much in the early 2000s so can't be sure.
I don't think the contract has actually been awarded for the new stock yet but I'd be relatively surprised if it wasn't for another Aventra variant, given the current 100% Bombardier presence on the route and the current popularity of that product.

Going off on a slight tangent...but at one point possibly not long after the 357s were introduced, wasn't c2c co-managed along with several other National Express franchises as "LondonLines", but never branded as such?

Yes with silverlink and wagn the latter had the same station signage c2c still has although the pink section is presumably much lighter on the c2c variant as wagn used purple

Cheers! I think LondonLines at one point went as far as sharing staff at the training centres, particularly when WAGN (Great Northern sector) and 'one' (West Anglia Sector) were split in 2004 and both franchises were still run by National Express.

Back to the 357s themselves...I always preferred the Green LTS interior as opposed to the purple c2c one. I also remember when the 357s first came out, they had a distinctive auto announcer who sounded a bit "chavvy", but was later replaced by the ubiquitous Julie Berry.

I don't remember the original announcer being too out of the ordinary

The best ever was the original voice on the 360s, recorded by someone who was then on the drivers for Great Eastern.

For a short while he could also be heard on the 317s on the West Anglia side, before it got replaced by...you guessed it...Julie Berry!

Yes they rely on platform cameras and very recently there has been the morning chaos when the sun shines off the mirrors causing 10 mins delays to the 12 car sets.

The first batch 357s were always the nicer of the two fleet interiors, something about the later one that just didnt look right, think it was that pink, plus those weird purpley sorta seat covers that they had which recently have disappeared for the green as used on the initial fleet

I don't think it was that recently - I've been daily commuting on c2c since 2012 and from then until last year both subclasses had the green seats. The purple ones only started appearing around the same time the Metro conversions were introduced.
