Saw this myself this evening. The end is nigh for Consort House, and not before time too!

Did they let SPT out before they start pulling it down, or are they getting demolished too? [emoji38]

That's one MASSIVE picture..

Taken in portrait instead of landscape too, just so we can see more of the road.

I'm more concerned about the total lack of news about the actual electrification of the line though.
The EGIP twitter feed has gone absolutely silent about it.

Could this problem end up being a significant delay?
Maybe the 385's will be ready before the line is... :p

Consort House is more about redevelopment of the station - I think there is a separate thread for this.

I agree, the silence on electrification itself is worrying although Shotts seems to be progressing well albeit not at the wiring stage as yet. Is the component in question common to other schemes such as GWR? Hopefully it proves to be just a few individual issues but I assume they will all have to be checked.

Perhaps we shouldn't get too excited about the scaffolding yet – the planning application for the demolition of Consort House was withdrawn as of 3rd May 2017. There may have been an amended application reflecting the situation with Buchanan Galleries not progressing the extension but I haven't found one.

Also O/T for this thread but there are some photographs on RailScot of progress with the new staff accommodation building in what used to be the car park.

According to the Scotsman, the Scottish parliament will be updated on Wednesday. No electric trains until October, full service December.

Doubt we are going to see 380s on the line unless theres delays to 385s

The Rural Economy and Connectivity Committee is currently hearing evidence from Network Rail and Scotrail on Rail Services in Scotland.

http://www.scottishparliament.tv/Home/Index/efd45ef7-6c78-40b8-84cb-bc652f7b33a2

Mark Carne (N/R), David Dickson (N/R Scotlan) and Derek Hynes (S/R).

Not surprisingly, some searching questions are being asked about EGIP.

So far – no firm answers on who's to blame, who pays any increased cost or even what the figure is.

However, NetWork Rail Scotland is "still within its funding envelope" (ie funding limit) and is "very confident" that it will not have to ask Holyrood for more money.

Early on, NetWork Rail stated that the EGIP electrification problems are still under investigation so no cause identified yet for the failure of the connectors. There were 300 connectors to be replaced of which 90 have already been replaced in less than 2 weeks. The work is being integrated with other ongoing work for the sake of efficiency. It takes 1 shift each to change them out and there are 53 gangs available for this work, which will be finished on time (for October energising).

I guess they'll be delivering less for the same money though.

Probably just rob it from the maintenance budget as usual. I see Humza managed to get the obligatory dig in about lack of control even though the project has been run (badly) wholly from Glasgow.

By Network Rail or Transport Scotland?

Transport Scotland, ultimately.

I think however, this shows up the difference between a project on a live railway (eg GWML, EGIP) and doing something on a closed railway (Borders, A2B)

Wrong again!

Scaffolding up at Dundas St entrance to #GQS to support 'soft strip' of Consort House ahead of main project work...
This is phase one works ahead of main demolition and redevelopment of #GQS as part of the wider #EGIP package of work.

The new (July) Modern Railways on p. 17 gives 2nd October for the start of electric services.

It also says that Humza Yousaf (Scottish transport minister) has confirmed that replacement of a failed safety critical electrification component and a number of other works will be required first.

However it then says the component in question is understood to relate to track circuit immunisation. No mention of anything to do with tensioning or securing the overhead line.

The latest issue of Today's Railways UK - July 2017 - has a picture on page 10 under the title "Grangemouth Branch Electrification" that suggests that this freight only branch is being electrified as part of EGIP.

Is this correct? I've seen various articles in the past in the railway press that suggest that the branch might be electrified, but never anything that says it will be.

It would be good news if TRUK are right; can anyone confirm or deny please?

For up to date information look for Scottish Parliament select committee proceedings .
I watched a very informative Q&A session with Head of Scotrail and Head of Railtrack all questions posed on this thread were answered.
All tensioning couplings are being replaced, not waiting for test results .

That'll be related to the work on Millerhill - which will be the depot for the 385's -no?

380s were going to be used from June > December, presumably kept at their normal depots.

No it is Eastfield, for whatever reason (probably down to it being Scotrail infrastructure) it was never included in the EGIP plans but is now, along with an expansion, being captured.

Since they are working in Springburn after dark, it may well have to be 'captured' first.

Has been included in the proposed EGIP infill list for several years (and was listed as such on the first post to this thread). The actual confirmed funding for it was about a year ago with money coming from the freight fund.
