So let's get our application in to the Traffic Commissioners to vary the service, including a new route number perhaps, then we can carry on running them. That sort of behaviour caused Stagecoach to have the reputation they did twenty years ago: they managed in the interim period to turn that reputation around so that they would, I suggest, be seen now as the most reputable of the large operators by both 'enthusiasts' and the general public. Actually, one well-directed complaint from a member of the public unable to access a scheduled service would imo be enough to end the dispensation in practice, full stop, and disabled groups have not forgotten that First was the operator in the various court cases involving the wheelchair user.

20 days per vehicle per service.

Changing topic, the Optare Metrodecker demonstrator is still about.

I saw it in St Austell today where it was on service 27.

I wonder what bus number appears on the tickets from the machine fitted to this bus?

The "Fal River" Olympian 34138 has been parked up at Camborne for over a week. When I was in Falmouth early this week the Park & Ride / float service was operated by a Volvo B7TL.

Its probably 35000

Silly me for posting a piece of information for enthusiasts that I thought would be appreciated. Lesson learned.

Certainly appreciated from me, and I guess will result in another circuit for me, to try another Oly!

I've done a full circuit across 3 days on each of L637SEU, D706GHY, and a hop on hop off style lap managing to try 5 of the new conversions so far.

A friend purchased an open top VR at the end of the last year. It's off on hire to Mendip Mule's Jurassic Mule tour operation at the end of July. A tour registration could always be an option to allow older buses to operate, although would mean no concession passes, and the need to return passengers to their start point (officially at least) so only full round trip tickets available albeit with hop on hop off availability.
We took it to both Bournemouth rally and southsea spectacular running days and it was a very popular vehicle at southsea with us running more seafront runs than scheduled. It was certainly fun route navigating an area I didn't know, and nor did my driver!
We did a 300 at Easter Sunday after the conclusion of the running day. I'm sure Steve would loan it given half a chance, as he loves seeing other people enjoying it, rather than being parked up in the storage shed.

Not too sure how you've reached that conclusion.

I expect I speak for all of us on here when I say that we appreciate the information that you have provided.

But unfortunately enthusiasts tend to question things. Maybe you can clarify whether the 20 day rule applies to the vehicle only and it can itself only be used for 20 days a year or it can be used 20 days per year with each operating company regardless of how many operating companies it goes to. Most of us on here aren't top management in a bus company so we aren't fully aware of all the regulations concerning the buses and the industry. We pick up on snippets of info and try to research as much as we can find, but there's quite a few things out there that need clarification and someone such as yourself who has the experience and knowledge can hopefully provide this clarification as required.

Thanks. I'm likely to head out tomorow but aiming for some closed tops. I've over done open tops lately, with the A routes, and also Torbay, and my links with the VR.
Maybe I'll do East-central cornwall!

34138 is having buoyancy aids and a propeller fitted for Falmouth park and float duties.??????

But if a vehicle changes ownership how would the new owner be aware? The previous owner would keep their defect report book for their records.
It's effectively changing ownership from first Dorset to First Southwest.

"how would the new owner be aware?" Are you seriously suggesting this is the case in this instance?

No not in this case, but say a little small operator in cornwall purchased an Olympian from a dealer that had previously been with a small operator at the other end of the country. I therefore can't see how per vehicle is enforceable in those situations, and therefore in line with equal treatment, the same would apply within subsidiaries of a major group and 20 days per operating company

A lovely VRTSL3/6LXB UWV614S new to Southdown. Rode on it to Land's End and back on Easter Sunday, did struggle on the ascent out of Sennen Cove.

Was told yesterday that rebuilding of the bus station at Penzance has been delayed by incorrect height of the approach to the stands. Yesterday tarmac was being removed and relaid to rectify this. Galvanized railings were also being erected.
The waiting room bus 40570 has been removed and was parked in the yard at Penzance garage following this warm spell. Also I saw Volvo Citybus 38006 (D706GHY) parked behind the garage building, clearly visible from the road still awaiting a return back to Somerset following its 20 days use.
Also noted blue liveried MMC 33471 was used on the 15:45 Penzance to Falmouth service 2.

Olympian 39920 is at Camborne and was being worked on this morning. 34137 appears to have departed whilst the Optare Metrodecker is still here with a not to be used sticker on the windscreen.

Are there any withdrawn buses at Camborne donating spares at the moment following the fairly recent clear out?

No nothing that I am aware of. One B7TL that has not moved for some time but when I asked FSW official on here a while back he said it was awaiting repair. One of the Eastern Counties / Essex coaches and a coach seated Vario as well that don't seem to be moved from one week to the next but are complete AFAIK.

The B7TL is 30874 & is missing almost all its dash, electric box loads of Seats lights upstairs screens as well as engine bits think that ones had it.

No it hasn't. The seats were used as a float set for open top conversions. The rest of the parts are waiting to be put back on. It's waiting for the workshop bay occupied by the open top conversions to be clear.

Penzance Bus Station appeared to be functioning again today. Yesterday p.m. there was a hive of activity; a whole platoon of high-viz jackets seemed to have been given a deadline, which I suspect may have been 5 p.m. as at 4.55 p.m. the intensity of the drone (continuing the hive metaphor) was at a peak. On Wednesday the bus station was open to all traffic in the southbound direction as northbound a single carriageway with just room for cars exiting the Wharfside Car Park to pass buses collecting passengers pertained in the adjoining public road. A bus driver told me that Cornwall Council had been responsible for all the work, including the payment for it. Whether this is the 'official' position I wouldn't know.

First West of England seem to have been successful in selling similar buses (32016 etc) through dealer Nigel McCree so perhaps First Kernow hope to find a market for their W reg Volvos when they go.

The bus station is part of cornwall councils transport bill, with funding from their £32m transport budget.

I'm not sure anyone in their right mind would buy them unless very cheap. They are struggling by.
I went for a trip in the rain recently with a driver friend, the Volvo was leaking worse than an open top. The driver had a steady river pouring out of his cab and reported his trousers and shoes in particular being soaked.
