I don't hate it but it looks a bit like a website from a few years ago. Maybe they designed the website first and then applied it to a train...

We were certainly spoiled by the maroon brand mockup posted a while ago.

There will a Desiro branded from September 4 I believe

Given I doubt they sneaked a 444 to platform 11 at Waterloo recently, I hope it looks better in the flesh! I don't mind the livery - it's the logo!

Since the same person who posted that fake LSWR mockup was the same person who posted this livery mockup, I wouldn't be that surprised if it turned out this livery mockup was fake as well. If it is genuine though then I wouldn't say it's that bad but it does remind me a bit of the old National Express liveries. Also, the way SWR is put on the front looks a bit odd.

The whole thing looks very dated and the font reminds me of NSE for some odd reason.

Worst, sorry, First do seem to still be living in NSE days given the "improvements" they've promised.

Uninspiring. The logo looks lop-sided. The symbol representing the franchise line diagram will look like no more than an asymmetrical collection of lines to most people. It would be better if the letters SWR were all on the same line, but they would then have to be smaller. It seems to be the fashion, or First's fashion at least (thinking of TPE), to have just part of the front coach in a livery, and the rest of it in just plain grey or off-white.

If this is genuine, which it may not be, then it's a disappointment, and all it will convey about the new franchise is greyness.

This one isn’t fake, I’d never mock up a grey train!

Looks like all liveries are heading the way of the Thameslink “undercoat” scheme...

Apologies for asking questions which have no doubt already been asked, but could someone advise which trains are the last to run of the old franchise / first to run of the new?

I fear at this stage trawling through 2500 posts means I'd likely miss any opportunity to travel on either!

Thanks!

0142 Waterloo to Surbiton is the last train service of the old franchise.

I think 0635 Southampton Central - Portsmouth & Southsea is the first one tomorrow morning, beating a couple of others by 2 minutes.

Do you reckon there will be any guards tomorrow making the mistake between the old and new company names during announcements? "This is a South West Trai... I mean South Western Railway service to Portsmouth Harbour."

I'm sure there will be.

When NS abolished the Fyra brand it took staff a few weeks to get that out of their system.

Yes, I'll be doing that for a while...

So one of the best tocs that time and time again has come top in passenger satisfaction ratings is being replaced

First mtr have to maintain high standards

The 442s returning are a positive at least

I am surprised longer franchises are still not favoured given the higher level of investment afforded

Certainly seemed professional and well managed with a high standard of train presentation ie the basics

RAIL magazine once noted the marked contrast in 158/9 (fgw/swt) stock at Salisbury ..

I remember a SWT guard being shocked at the condition of a 150/9 I was working to Portsmouth. . Obviously stock can't be helped but can't help thinking the internal condition would have been better under stagecoach

First have NEVER been a top notch operator. They were the first bus operator to put leather seats on their standard buses as a way of hiding the cracks. Once I travelled from Piccadilly to Blackpool North with Transpennine in 1st on a Friday. My seat had a dirty headrest. I travelled back with the same train in the same seat on the Sunday. Guess what? The headrest was still dirty! They had 2 nights to replace it! My condolences to anyone who has to use SWR.

A special joint Stagecoach/Modern Railways supplement is being sent out to all staff. Nice touch. Can be found online here.

No ticket machines taking money all day today because of a 'fault'

Not a fault it's for accounting purposes.

I don't think I've ever heard of that happening on the last day of a franchise before - it seems kinda odd.

P.S. Just (in)digesting the look of the new SWR logo... not good, it looks a right discordant mess.

AFAIK the first one is 0531 Wimbledon - Waterloo.

Yes, it was sent by post a few days ago. It also included another small booklet labelled 'Memories 1996-2017' which have a bunch of pictures of trains/staff throughout the franchise.

Also, as a nice gesture, they have given a free one day family pass for the employee and his/her family on VTEC or EMT.

My last ever South West Trains ride was aboard 458 536. Such a sad day, I will miss South West Trains very much.

Last run for me was on 458531/533. Somehow appropriate to do a 458 back on the Reading line - 3rd time they've been replaced other stock during Stagecoach's time!

Having used SWT daily over the last 7 years, they have generally operated a good service, with reliable, clean trains. First/MTR have a tough act to follow.

Your are right, looking at TRUST line-up, however this is not shown on a certain live departure board, neither is the 0614 ex-Wimbledon. That is weird.
