Hi guys, hopefully this is the best thread to get some advice from any SWT Drivers out there? I have tried searching everywhere on the forum!

I have passed MMI, DMI etc and am just waiting on the medical date.
Can anyone give me a rough idea as to the typical shifts etc for a Staines Mainline Driver?

Thanks.

Anywhere from 03:40 starts to 02:30 finishes currently. Who knows what changes the new franchise will bring.

Can I add a further question to current SWT drivers:

Does anybody know what travel concessions SWT drivers will get under the new franchise?

Thanks

If it mirrors the other First Group TOCs, then you will get unlimited travel on SWT, your TOC Priv and a First Group boxes card for a certain number of days travel a year on other First Group TOCs. We also get a Weekend First card with a number of boxes to use in a year for Weekend Upgrades to first class (although I've never been asked to fill one out)

Also, does anyone have ideas as to what potential Overtime there is once qualified?

Cheers

This is close. Details here... http://firstmtrswstaff.com/index.php/franchise-updates/

Free days are available across swt, but you'll be wanting your time off when you're first out and about on your own. High risk with little experience means working a rest day you are much more likely to make a mistake and jeopardise your new career.

Thanks for the excellent link, I was hoping there would be some travel concessions for using the tfl rail as it's run by MTR. Doesn't seem like that will be the case.. Ahh well

Coming from the other side, I was hoping we at TfL rail would be able to use SWT. I'll let you know if anything changes.

A question for SWT drivers.. With the staff pass that allows you to travel on the South Western line, do you also receive a spouse pass for the Mrs to do the same? Also, is this spouse pass limited only to social travel or can the spouse commute to work with it?

Thanks in advance

My stagecoach south western trains staff travel pass documentation clearly states that Spouses/partners and dependents may only use their pass for leisure purposes (not for travel to work, business purposes or travel to a place of education)

Very rarely is that enforced only if you get a jobsworth type!

I disagree. I've seen a fair number of staff lose all their travel because spouses or dependants have used it to commute.

Not saw it happen once in the 2 TOCs I have worked for

It's a smart card not a paper ticket so travel timings are easily tracked. If you're always going through the same station barrier at a particular time then you are going to get caught.

Maybe its just my own view, but in an industry where it is so hard to get a job, I would be making sure that none of my family abused any of their travel privileges that may have the potential of putting the job that I worked hard to get at risk!

Sorry to take this back to some of the earlier conversation, I just had a question regarding the travel perks for drivers on the SWR network. I appreciate the franchise changed hands this weekend just passed so maybe this is still in the air - but anybody got any ideas whether drivers do/will get 75% off other TOC travel across the UK as I take it GWR receive? Or am I missing that this is an industry standard?

Although not an actual franchise requirement for any TOC to offer or provide Priv travel it is in effect an industry standard. Occasionally you will hear of one TOC or another threatening to withdraw from the scheme but not one has ever seriously backed up such a threat! What remains at this present moment are the communication niceties of ensuring that other TOCs and their staff are aware of the change from SWT to SWR and the eventual effect that has on things like staff ID cards.
