If one were being picky, presumably depot drivers/shunters

How about Inverness?

I originally missed the sarcasm too - could have probably used a emoticon or such

inverness hst services worked by newcastle drivers

Its a joke about the Heathrow Express service (which are nearly always empty) always getting priority.

The order you list was correct but isnt anymore, on the MML the Thameslink services will take priority over EMT services so they can get to the core on time (not that it will work anyway) and there are many examples of passenger trains being held to give freight priority.

Comical post of the year EMT get priority 100%

There are 125 mph stretches between Edinburgh and Newcastle, especially a few miles out of Edinburgh

yeah of course but i think the point was that the original op thought there was an an ec depot at inverness but its covered by a lodging turn by newcastle drivers who drive them at 125 mph both north and south of newcastle

For now, wait until the ThamesLink services start in anger and then we will see who is being comical!
But my post was about the future so I am obviously wrong.

Plymouth XC drivers don't get over 110MPH - and I believe the same may be true of Bristol XC but I'm not sure if they sign HSTs?

Why refer to the "Wikipedia" and not the SA?

Some link(s) at Oxford sign the Cotswolds (in addition to 125mph areas).

I haven't got the SA to hand but last time I checked that line was indeed 100MPH (it stuck in my memory because as far as I'm aware it's also the highest line speed on any single track section in the country) - however, AFAIK it's Oxford and Bristol who sign that route, and they both go to London and therefore can do 125 regularly enough. It was mentioned earlier that Gloucester sign Didcot-Swindon as a diversion, which gives them a very occasional run at 125MPH, is that because they sign the Cotswolds line as well? And I wonder do any of the Paddington HSS drivers go that way as well - albeit again they'll see 125MPH regularly.

Paddington men sign as far as Great Malvern. Oxford, Bristol and very soon Worcester sign through to Hereford.

Gloucester don't sign the north Cotswolds line, but are able to potentially relieve an Oxford man at Didcot to take a train as far as Worcester/Great Malvern via Cheltenham if required.

The speed limit is 100mph on the single track from Wolvercot junction on the edge of Oxford to just east of Charlbury - I think it is 60mph though Charlbury station and then 100mph on the double track from there to Ascott-under-Wychhood. After 75mph through Shipton, it is 90mph to Moreton-in-Marsh, 75mph to Evesham (bit slower - 60mph? - at Aston Magna curve) and 90-95mph between Evesham and the edge of Worcester.

Drivers' links that sign the route are as indicated by others above - the new Worcester drivers' depot, joining the long-standing guards' depot, is most welcome, and will cut down on GWR's taxi bills no end.

Never knew it was 125mph on that stretch . Was surprised how quick it was when i took HST through that bit timewise

It was part of the improvements that went in as part of Operation Princess, it went up to 125HST/90. There's still a big reduction through Burton on Trent though.
