I hold full standard class travel concessions from the BR era. Which TOCs do not allow staff travel concessions on their services ?

None - bar some Open Access operations like Grand Central (who would if they were allowed)

No reciprocal agreement, and because GC is not a franchised TOC, it can do what it wants pending negotiation with other operators.

When GC first started its services they allowed staff concessions to be used but have since banned them. Anyone know why the change of heart ?

Did they?

I was always under the impression that some of their guards unofficially allowed it, but others took a more officious approach. Nothing wrong with the latter of course, just sticking to the rules.

I could be wrong, mind.

Its always been the case that PRIV is not valid on GC as per ATOC/RSTL rules i.e.

Grand Central are an open access operator. They have no
agreement to exchange travel facilities with the franchised
Train Operating Companies and as such free and privilege rate
travel facilities are not available for use on Grand Central
services

However I have heard of people with PRIV being allowed to travel after asking the Guard nicely. I have heard of similar requests being turned down as well.

Yes. Have to buy at either Paddington or Heathrow itself. Can't buy on train. It's listed as the Atoc discount if the clerk has a blank expression...

Never had a blank expression from anyone at HEX. Just make sure if you have first class facilities they don't charge you for buisness class. Hardly worth it for a 15-20 minute hop to the airport.

Or travel by Heathrow connect (soon to become MTR Crossrail next May) and you'll only need a priv ticket between Hayes & Harlington and the airport if you date a box.

I dont think that was official though, perhaps a Guard could overlook and allow you, but officially you cannot. Now that the company is owned by DB Arriva if you are employed by an DB Arriva company your ID card permits you to use this service, subject to the usual restrictions which can be found on the link previously posted earlier.

Wow, very useful thread. I never realised that about Grand Central- I was thinking about taking a train ride to York before the HSTs go but I'll take that off my list.

They do have some very cheap Advances if you can make use of those.

I know this doesn't directly relate to the BR pass but similar circumstances as discussed about being allowed to travel on Grand Central services... I often see SWR employees travelling on Cross Country/ GWR (and vice versa) on SWR routes. For example, I remember at Basingstoke a XC service was going towards Southampton/Bournemouth (SWR network) and a SWR employees waved at the TM and gestured towards the train indicating that she wanted to get on and the TM gave the thumbs up.
Even though technically when you get a TOC pass, you get free travel on the TOC trains rather than a network, (i.e. if another TOC operates in that area, you don't automatically get free train travel on it), in reality it seems that they have a casual agreement with one another. Obviously, however, if you are going off your network (e.g. if in the above example the train was going to Reading- off SWR network) then you are being extremely cheeky.

Having a BR pass means I don't have to do this but I'll admit this casual agreement seems nice as it means you don't have to wait another 20 minutes just for a train operated by your TOC to come to go to the exact same destination. Also, you get more choice of trains- not that I would rather be sitting in the voyager in the above example ;)

Hope someone can clarify this for me. My daughter has staff travel facilities, however her mother doesn't as we're no longer together. I know that buying Priv tickets for people other than the card holder is a no no, but what if that person was traveling with the card holder?

Unless it a member of VTEC staff using one of their first class boxes to take friends or family with them. Has to be the staff member though
