Got to go to a wedding in Warsaw next August and am wondering about doing it by train, stopping in Amsterdam & Berlin each for a day.

Any ideas on cost?

Slightly off-topic: Track works between Poznan and Warsaw (due to drag on till mid-2019) add an extra hour to the journey time from/to Berlin.

Currently Berlin-Warsaw is €52.60 one way, with discounted ticket (limited numbers, non-refundable, non-exchangeable) at €29.

I would hope for Amsterdam to Warsaw, splitting at Berlin, for EUR 39+29. You might get even cheaper by splitting at (eg) Bad Bentheim rather than Berlin.

we had a polish wedding a few years ago, we flew as railway line was closed for months being rebuilt,
wedding wise, it was like old fashion London knees up,
vodka all night (the real stuff) and not one drunken fool being sick

B y that time €* should be running LON-AMS-just wait till later if/how/cost etc.
Indeed, AMS-BER-WAW is the cheapest going for 39//29€/single fixed bookings. Check InterRail-there are not that many extra's to pay then (except euro-star) but it will give you more flexibility, its even better if you are jun/senior and take profit of the 15% discounts they often do autumn/spring. it also includes 1 trip in home-country going out+in-handy if you live far from LON.
However, try WIZZair for cheap flites-most likely even lower as 29 gbp or eur for seat-only for Luton-WAW, RYAN uses the other far away airport Modlin.

Polish weddings are well worth going to, no wine for toasts, it was Vodka. The service from Berlin to Warsaw is quite good, the scenery is not inspiring though, a bit like Peterborough to Norwich for 5 1/2 hours but you get to see Poland which is something you miss at 38,000ft. When I went a couple of years ago we flew to Berlin and used the train beyond there, tickets at the time were in the region of 30-40 Euros. PKP Intercity do have advances but they go on sale quite late for planning such a trip, I was told 4-6 weeks and they don't last long.

The Warsawa - Szczecin sleeper is useful link if you want to travel from Warsaw to London and avoid the expense of a hotel stay. It's just about possible to do the Szczecin - London or vv. section in a day, connecting with the sleeper to/from Warsaw. This is handy work-around now that the Cologne -Warsaw service has gone.

It's 30 days actually. There are some discounted tickets which sell out pretty quickly.

Yes, 30 days is when they release tickets. Seems bizarre when you compare it with the advance purchase time frame we have over here. I kept an eye out on Warsaw-Krakow last year and made sure to buy the tickets first thing in the morning 30 days beforehand (they do routine overnight website maintenance which always catches me out!) and the 'Superpromo' tickets had all gone before 6.30am. Or rather they had one left and we needed two. Price jumped from 80PLN to something like 250PLN in one swoop for first class singles (divide by 5 to get a rough estimate in £££). You'd think the rise would be a little more staggered, but hey ho I guess the analysts over at PKP know what they're doing.

It is, sort of....
30% discount 30 - 21 days before the travel date,
20% discount 20 - 14 days before the travel date
10% discount 13 - 7 days before the travel date
Valid in 2nd class (UK's standard class) only, applied automatically, but the number of tickets is limited.

And if you are lucky (???) to be over 60, you get a 30% off full price tickets.

I once traveled from Warsaw to Krakow for 60zl (£12) in First Class which including a free hot drink, free snack, free soft drink and a choice of 3 hot meals (I chose Pasta) which was ridciolously good value.

However the most stupidest thing about the Intercity Premium Trains (Pendolinos) which are PKP's flagship when I first used them and also when I used them in April this year, is they do not have Wifi despite having good sockets and plenty of room to work.

Ironically the Express Intercity class (next one down) does have Wifi so you used to have the silly situation where people were often taking the class of trains down from the premium ones for business because that allowed them to use Wifi.

Wifi provision tends to depend on when stock was built or refurbished, I suspect. Is the EIC stock recently refurbished?

Never mind what's fitted to what stock....

On substantial stretches of the Warszawa-Krakow and Warszawa_Gdansk routes there is no mobile (voice) coverage, so there is no chance of on-board WiFi no matter how modern the trains are <D
