Hi all, hopefully this is the right place for this. I applied for a Customer Host position with GWR and had an assessment centre and interview with them last Tuesday. All that's left now is to wait for (fingers crossed!!!) the email saying I've got the job. My question is how long did people who were successful have to wait for a response from them, or and did they email if you were unsuccessful or did you just have to work out from the silence that you didn't get the job :?

Thanks in advance!

GWR usually give you a decision within a week.

Here's a little trick; phone them, say you missed an unknown caller and was wondering if it was them with a decision.

Thanks for the replies! I wasn't expecting anything that evening because I know they had two more groups on the Friday just gone, but I wasn't sure how long it would take them to decide on recruits. I did hear somebody say something about within two weeks which would give me until next Tuesday but I don't know if I'm just getting my hopes up at this point :( I'm definitely going to try the phoning them tip tomorrow though!

Well it turns out that I didn't need to panic because I woke up this morning to a conditional offer!!! Subject to passing a criminal record check (which as far as I'm aware should be fine!)
Thanks again for the replies and help!

Hello,

I just joined this site. I have an interview for a job at Paddington on Tuesday 26th. Can I ask how did it go? And what sort of questions were you asked?

Thanks!

Hey Cornish Pirate! Because I'm just a Customer Host I won't have to do a medical, they just want a dbs check to cover their backs I think.

Tottenham52, the interview was very much scenario based questions, for example "Have you ever had to deal with a difficult customer and how did you resolve the situation" etc. I think it's just important to draw on past experiences and explain why you did what you did. It took around half an hour I think, although of course you don't notice the time pass!

Hope this helped, and thanks all for the congratulations, can't wait to start!

Cornish pirate, my confirmation email said only safety critical roles need a medical and I don't think Customer Host would fall under that. It would be more expense on their part to do a medical for every single role. Having said that I'm a sure even if there is one it won't be as in depth as one for a train driver I'm sure!

If your role is non safety critical you will not have a medical, you will however have a pre-employment Drugs and Alcohol test

Hi all, just wanted to say a huuuuge thank you to everyone who's responded to this thread - my start date is the 9th! I'm so excited and you were really all so helpful and reassuring to me! I did have a 'medical' in the end, although it literally consisted of me going to Swindon to pee in a cup so for anyone who's worried, as long as you don't take anything naughty you'll be alright!
Ordered my uniform yesterday and counting down the days until I can consider myself part of the railway family!

P.S Cornish Pirate - have you had your start date as well yet? I got the email Tuesday morning.

Hey Cornish Pirate! Because I'm just a Customer Host

Um no need to put yourself down, getting ANY job on the railway is an achievement and you should be proud of yourself, there are far more people who fail than succeed!

Well thank you kindly 455driver and eastldn! It was definitely the hardest job selection process I've ever had to go through but I'm so chuffed to finally be able to say I work on the railway now! (I'm still half waiting for the phone call to say they made a mistake ??????)
Roll on Monday though, I can't wait to start my railway career!

Hi,

I believe my start date is the 20th November so i'm counting down the days. I've not had this confirmed officially following the medical a week ago so just waiting to hear. If any body has a contact number for the recruitment team and wouldn't mind private messaging it to me it would be much appreciated as I also have a job offer from the police which I politely need to turn down as soon as this is confirmed and they are chasing me currently for a medical with them.

Many Thanks in advance

have you tried the dedicated gwr recruitment email address? as opposed to first group resourcing
