I'm not sure if this the right thread to ask - but is there a reason why the down Night Riviera, departing Paddington, on Sunday 26th November does not appear to convey sleeping cars? 'Seated' fares are being offered on gwr.com, but it appears that berths cannot be reserved. Or is this just a quirk of the reservation system related to weekend engineering work?

I would say this would probably be more suited to ask in the fares section of the forums, but to answer your question - at a guess you're trying to book a berth with an advance fare? Berth supplements aren't available with advance fares unfortunately, you have to choose the full price fares, such as super off-peak single for example, and then you'll be able to book a berth supplement.

Maybe the "new" Long Rock depot could do with a wheel lathe after the "slipping and sliding" the down sleepers suffered in Cornwall this morning.
Several other services in Devon & Cornwall as well so a sign of things to come over the coming weeks.

Hopefully no serious flats on 57604.

Hour late on depot. The wheel lathe from OC was due to transfer down but Network Rail, its owners, require it elsewhere.... ! Winter is coming !

Slep 10584 due back this week from Wolverton with 10534 going up next week for refurbishment.

No up service.on Friday due to engineering works but an HST will be run instead. An ECS move will happen PZ - OC sometime around dinnertime Friday to get stock in place for sundays services.

Hi Paul,
Is the down sleeper on Friday still scheduled to run do you know?

Track circuit problems this morning meant the down with 605 held at St Erth for just over an hour.

SLEP 10584 males its first refurbished run in Thursdays up.

The plan for Reading to service the Riviera 3 nights a week on hold; staff training, no staff !

Hello all - have been enjoying all the updates.

Slightly OT, but can someone confirm if the sleeper is running between Christmas and New Year or not? Was hoping to book a trip PAD - PNZ down say 29th December up 2nd January. Can see trains in the planners etc but not able to get any fares. In helpful exchanges via Twitter DM with GWR I got the reply that it won't run after 22 December and before 1 January at all.

Is that usually the case and can anyone confirm? Many thanks in advance!

The Night Riviera usually does not run over Christmas. This year the last night will be departing Fri 22 and commencing again Mon 1 Jan. Amended timetable with HSTs etc run during this period.

Many thanks for the quick reply and confirmation. Shame it is not simply pulled from the planners online for those dates as I think it being simply greyed out is not that user friendly for normal punters as it implies it is running but not bookable.

Right then; although on time, currently some 4m over budget. Wheel lathe that was at oc owned by nr now needed up north so cancelled. Underframe cleaning shed status unknown, new shed/offices/training centre/staff accomadation/stores all should be ready as planned for 5 DEC. Equipment to transfer from oc 5-24 DEC. First stock in on test on monday. Train care messroom/stores being demolished this weekend. Replacement Walters Siding and other new trackwork between new shed and yard should start soon meaning shunters cabin and various stores being relocated to new buildings. New train care building to be built on current car park but this may change due to aforementioned costs. Most staff are surprised that nobody has yet been hurt......... .
Edited twice due to american autospell driving me nuts !

I heard the wheel lathe was ditched on cost grounds alone, nothing to do with being needed elsewhere.
Whatever, you aren't getting it!

Especially when there's a brand new lathe at Reading TCD. A 57 has already been in there for gauging purposes.

This is probably a stupid question - but why do NR need a wheel lathe and why was it at OOC.... did NR use that depot for there Maintenance vehicles? I would have thought GWR would have there own or is this a common thing for them to be NR owned?

NR inherited equipment from BR, along with OC of course. We only leased it. Many plant items are leased, from store rooms to floor pressure washers. Did you know that includes cleaning cloths at Long Rock ?
That's privatisation !

Leasing cleaning cloths, overalls etc. was/is common. Over 50 years ago when I started in Agricultural Engineering; a once a week job of the retired ex fitter "workshop boy" was to collect up all cloths, count them, and bag them in 200s and, along with the previous week's overalls, have ready for collection to be swapped for a similar number cleaned or laundered. I see various companies still supply a similar service.

Modern Railways reports that a 57 will be attached at the country end of Reading during the up sleeper's stop there when the servicing transfers from OC to Reading. This will then haul the ECS to Reading, I am wondering if this is the path: http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/C58840/2018/01/09/advanced. Then in the evening the reverse occurs http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/C59721/2018/01/03/advanced with the 57 being detached during the Reading stop.

The Reporting Nos confirm this, 5A40 and 5C99
