Although our lift from station to home - my mum - has now gone to bed, we were told our taxi would only take us to home if it was closer than the station. Fortunately it is, but that seems unfair on those who are now going to have to pay for taxis from their final station.

If a guard physically locks a door OOU does it remove that door from the interlock circuit at all?

That aforementioned 1V64 XC service from Edinburgh to Plymouth is currently approaching Burton-on-Trent a mere 360L - 6 hours in normal speak! Must be a little odd being at Burton now hearing announcements for the 173x service!

Terminated at Brum. Cheaper to put everyone in a hotel than taxi them home.

Not a good day. Again.

I think it can vary - I have twice been put in a taxi to complete my journey where it was specifically said to be "to home address". Ultimately, the contract one has with the railways it to reach X station

Between the parallel lines

It can depend on the class/type of stock and also what sort of door or fault it is.

On more modern stock, there may be local isolation for specific power door controls, as well as remote unlocking/locking and overrides.

Obviously this may not be relevant in this case!

If there is a chance someone may share the taxi, or the town/village of the destination would not match a station address for audit purposes, it may be harder to get it to go to a home address.

It is also much easier to justify and verify why someone wants a taxi to a station on their ticket, rather than looking up everyone’s random street three miles away, to check that the railway replacement transport facilities aren’t being misused.

That being said, customer service skills on the day can be the practical solution, as well as basic set-in-stone TOC policies which may be part of a checklist for taxi ordering.

If anyone gave up travelling yesterday and you are going through Newcastle north or south be warned a tree on the line between Durham and Newcastle is causing further delays in both directions

Looking back at my earlier carreer, Sunday was always a risk day even without major engineering works. Staff and locos are not generally on hold and crew turns are relatively tight. Unless Sunday becomes another weekday, what happened will happen again, and possibly just as slowly.
