I’m no expert but I seriously doubt it. I certainly don’t think they go out of their way to fail people and it’d be awfully harsh to fail you over that. Everyone picks up injuries, can’t be helped.

I’d guess that in the very worst case scenario it may delay things while they see if it heals properly and then reassess you but that’s worst case scenario. I’d be amazed if you failed because of that.

Thanks, a wee bit reassurance I’m just over-reacting! I’ve had safety crit medicals before but I can’t remember if they ask about things like that, it’s just an injury inflicted at the gym so nothing serious but doesn’t stop me worrying!

Jan 17th and Apr 13th. Feels like an age go for both!

Well it’ll be lovely to meet you if we’re on the same course (hopefully)! I do also know of internal trainee drivers for Edinburgh waiting for course dates too so there may be a fair few of us!

I hope so too.

There were only 4 on my psychs day including me, one internal and the other two both in railway jobs already. The internal candidate seemed very strong so I'll be surprised if he didn't make it through. In fact, the bitters seemed very strong as well.

I feel even more proud for making it through as I have zero railway experience.

You should be, it’s a massive deal!

I’ve been in railway for 6 and a half years now (since I was 16!!), this has been a bit of a dream of mine so I’m dead excited to get started.

I've got a few more years under my belt than you, but crucially, a fair amount of relevant experience working in safety critical areas though. Roll on the end of the month...

I left the railway last year for career progression in IT, but how a year changes things, now I can’t wait to get back to it. I will be digging out my personal track safety books .

I’m coming over from working in education with absolutely zero railway experience.

Must admit I didn’t think I’d have a chance to begin with.

I think I remember you now mate! The education bit definitely rings a bell.

Hi everyone!

Not posted for a while.

But got my email about 3 weeks ago to say I’m starting on the 23rd October! Contracts signed and accommodation sorted! Can’t wait!

Everyone else still waiting I woul just say hang in there! My initial contact in the talent team before speaking to HR (Rebecca) seem to always be out of the office attending assessments etc I know it’s frustrating when you feel as though you can’t speak to anyone but they are really busy and if you’ve passed your medical and are still waiting for a start date don’t worry it’s coming, I passed mine in March!

Good luck to everyone!

Hey, were you only told you were starting in October three weeks ago? Not much notice is it? However great that you’ve been given a date and hopefully now the rest will filter through for everyone else. Good luck!

Hi,

Yeah I got told about 3 weeks ago (just over now) my start date would be 23rd October along with my contract etc.

I did get asked a couple weeks prior though if I was available to start in October, I assumed it would be the 23rd due to previous comments on this thread from people who have already started and have been told or overheard next course start dates.

Not a huge amount of notice I know but I knew it was coming and I let my employer know as soon as I got it, luckily it has been ok.

Hopefully for the next course they will be able to give more notice but I think because it has been so busy for them that’s why it was kind of last minute. They also did say people would have an update by October latest so I didn’t actually expect to hear anything any earlier than that.

Regret every day not applying for these jobs! Doubt they’ll come up again for a very long time!

You never know mate. Some may drop out, circumstances may change, VTEC may recruit further. You just never know.

Keep the faith and keep your eyes on VTEC recruitment. It's not impossible.

Here’s a question, do I tell my employees now out of Courtesy or do I hold off to not sour the grapes ahead of knowing dates..... such a predicament :|

I think I'd wait personally, at least until you have a definite medical pass, a start date and a contract for the depot of your choice. Unless you have all of that then potentially, the wheels could still come off.

It's unlikely, I'm sure all will work out, but you just never know and you don't want to talk yourself into unemployment in the name of courtesy.

I would do everything you're contractually obligated to do...get your start date and give your employer the notice they require from you then you're doing everything right by them.

Think I saw the new class doing their fire training out in the car park today. Saw a nice little fire with people squirting at it!

Wish you all the best with your rules! Always around to answer any questions I can!
