Coaches are used for rail replacement and College work only. In an emergency they might be pressed into service. Don't think they are DDA compliant but have exemption for rail replacement and College work I believe.
DDA doesn't apply to coaches until January 2020. It is entirely possible 08 plate coaches are compliant with wheelchair lift, especially considering their previous work.

Hi All,
Can confirm Red Decker V338 LGC arrived at Taunton this afternoon and is due to leave for Cornwall tomorrow so keep a look out for it.
Looks like it was once LT stock, Cheers, Mike R

Coachs HAVE been out in service so have the Plaxton / Tranbus Merc Cheetah' s & BMC School buses as all 3 are classed as a Coach DDA is not till 2020 on them so are fine to use in a emergency as they have been .

Seen in and around Penzance during the 6-7 p.m. witching hour today:-
A correct blue bus on the final (?) journey of the day to Penryn on the U4
The Dart with a Heart (livery) on the T1
A short green Optare on the A17 (smacking of desperation)
A Tinner on the T1 to Truro, being closely followed by an oos Tinner, which may well have been on the U4 earlier

, given these two buses exactly replicated what I saw yesterday evening at the same time.

If the coaches are newer than 06 (I think), to be used on service work they need a wheelchair lift. I do not think it is enforced though. Parks of Hamilton quite often use non wheelchair lift coaches in Scotland on Citylink and gold services.

It was. Come your way via Ensign after disposal by Go North East where it was 6038 and in rather rough condition!

Edit Apologies it’s 6008 and 6029 that are First bound

I'm puzzled as to why First have been DDAing and then selling W reg, B7TLs out of Bristol, and then shortly afterwards hiring older similar buses (ex London) from Ensign. Why not keep the Bristol examples as a strategic reserve fleet for use by First opcos to cover for such eventualities?

Or am I missing something?

I wasn’t the only hardy sole/idiot outside upstairs. It was capped at Penzance with closed top taking over

There were in fact two opentoppers out simultaneously on the A17, because one took up service at 16.15 at PZ bus stn, having been parked oos, as another one arrived in service: they were briefly at adjoining stands. An hour earlier I was in Greenmarket when an M6 came by for Mousehole and was of a length that would not get it into the village: by coincidence, it was passed in the other direction by a short Optare, in green livery, on the town 11 service which doesn't require such a short bus.

So that's another half an hour wait for anyone at Mousehole harbour, who won't know that the bus has turned at the top.

Uni bus 33422 was on the 08:00 231 service from Falmouth Moor to Truro College, it's destination screen wasn't working so had it's route number stuck on the window

33420 was on service 87 this afternoon. "Mousehole" Solo's 53709 and 53704 both out of service at Camborne this afternoon.

There was a Mousehole Solo on its intended route today: seen it three times, but didn't see the other allocated bus, so don't know whether it was the appropriate length. An open topper was still on the A17 which, in view of the weather (as windy as Monday this p.m., and a lot more rainy!) was really taking the proverbial..

Desperately short of vehicles and drivers unfortunately in all depots

Drivers too? I didn't know that. I'd guess add engineering staff to the list too. It really made me think this afternoon when I parked my car in Wharfside Car Park in Penzance, from where I saw an opentopper on the A17 about to depart: around 35 minutes later, when I returned, another (or possibly the same bus back from Madron) was waiting to leave for St Ives. This was against the backdrop of one of the pedestrian entrances to the car park blocked by a fallen tree and, in the background, the very rare sight of the Scillonian ferry with passengers on board inching along the side of the Albert Pier to dock. The Albert Pier is only used when the Scillonian is unable to dock in its normal position and, since changes to maritime regulations about ten years ago, is almost always done without passengers on board. It also indicates that the ship will not sail on the following day, which was confirmed. The point I am making is that weather conditions were bad and getting worse and to see opentoppers out does not inspire confidence, unless the top deck is sealed off. They certainly weren't yesterday, but I couldn't tell today.
