Thank you for your application for the position of Trainee Depot Driver.

Unfortunately we're not going to progress your application on this occasion. We'd like to thank you for the interest you've shown and for the time you've taken doing your application.

We received over 2,000 applications for this role and the standard was exceptionally high so unfortunately we are not able to give specific feedback on your application, please note any requests for feedback will not be responded to. However if you check out the careers section of our website there's some great tips.

Me too.

It's nice to see that no one is being left hanging long, whether it's good or bad news!

I'm really impressed with the speed of this sift! Hopefully, it's a sign of the speed that the rest of the process will move at! ;)

To those who are progressing, congratulations, and all the best at the next stage!
To those who are unsuccessful, don't lose heart! Just look at your CV and application again and compare it with the train driver competencies these are listed on East Midlands Trains Careers page. You're bound to find something to tweak ready for next time! :D

Thanks mate but the c.v bit I am not so sure, Four times I have passed trainee train driver sift's (failed at dmi,one sjt,one phone interview, and one for being not near enough the depot) and use the same c.v albeit updated so the other's liked it but since then I now have the psychometric's including the mmi,so doubt it's a c.v thing lol.

I'm so sorry to hear that baz, easy for me to say I know but don't lose faith mate!

Ah it's ok gotta take the knockback's after all they wouldn't want potential train driver's getting depressed, it's not a good trait lol and anyway I am a patient man in the grand scheme. Can be impatient ish waiting an e mail to say if I am being progressed because not knowing is hard but overall can wait for a job if that makes sense. Thanks for the kind word's tho mate and make sure you wow them.

If we go by the numbers we know on the emails and video that have been posted here so far: 2000 applicants, top 25% go through to assessment 1, therefore 500. 20%-40% pass assessment, lets take the middle figure 30%, leaving 150 candidates to go through group exercises and interviews. This gets reduced to 40 as 96% of candidates EMT put forward post interviews pass assessment 2, good way of saving them money!

Look back at the advert. One of the first lines was about young people, women and ethnic minorities being under represented in the depot driver staffing and welcomed them to apply.

Read into it what you feel........

Never posted on a forum before but would like some advice.

I’m a little confused.

After being shortlisted for the position, i’ve been updated and said I won’t be progressed because I’ve sat the assessments in the last 6 months. But I passed all of these tests & the MMI to Chilterns enhanced standard but I got knocked back at the Driver Manager Interview so where do I stand on this? Any help is appreciated.

Hi there RuralSquad93,

I'm really sorry to hear about this. I can't remember if you would have needed to have ticked the previous assessment history box at the application pre-check screen. (Trying to remember whether the wording was 'Have you sat?' or 'Have you failed?' :frown:)

The best thing to do is to contact HR and explain the situation to them. It may be that they have made an error somewhere.
Also, If you happen to have applied for any other position with East Midlands Trains within the last 6 months, and was unsuccessful, that would also explain the knockback.

I hope you can get this sorted. No harm in contacting them.

Why don't you ring the OPC and explain your situation. They will be able to clarify where you stand regarding the validity of the assessments. Then you can speak to EMT HR in case they've got it wrong.

I have just had the same e-mail and exactly the same predicament as you.

It’s all very confusing. In my e-mail they state that I have taken the tests twice which is true.

I first took all the tests in 2015 for DB Schenker. Passed them then. I then took part one of the assessments for Chiltern this year and met the enhanced score required. Didn’t have to take part two as already passed. Sadly just got knocked back at DMI for Chiltern.

I thought the two rule applied to those that have failed the tests. I haven’t failed the tests and thought I would at least be given a chance.

Yeah, the two-strike rule only applies if you fail to meet the OPC standard, and DMIs (should) have no bearing with other TOCs, and the two-strike rule doesn't apply to these either.

Something seems to be wrong somewhere. Definitely contact EMT's HR.
Sounds like there may be an issue with the records EMT have. (Or is it a Chiltern thing?)

Can't remember the initial application as I got a few in but I think there was a checkbox that said have you taken and failed the test's within last six month's, there was on one of my application's maybe someone accidentally ticked a box.

Training salary is 18 weeks or passout, whichever comes first.

Current salary is £35166, but there’s two pay rises scheduled for The next 12 months so will be closer to c£38k by the time you got there.

Not far off the mark. It’s £35188 and 5 weeks mentoring (or 20 days). 16 weeks training in total with 11 weeks at the training academy.

Out of curiosity, has anybody who has already passed the tests actually been put through? This sounds rather odd to me!

Hi guys,

I have received my assessment stage 1 booklet and it informs you that stage 1 is from pages 1-40. In the booklet this contains Bourdon, TeaOcc and also a couple of other assessments.

During the presentation linked on page 3 there's is a part which states the tests you complete at each stage and that slide show only showed the Bourdon and TeaOcc for stage 1. Should I prepare for the other tests stated in the booklet or is that a generic hand out for all potential tests TOC's can use?

Good luck to all the other guys still awaiting info.
