These mills were developed by John Dickinson (1782 – 1869).

In 1810, John Dickinson married Ann Grover, who was the daughter of Harry Grover, a banker from Hemel Hempstead in Hertfordshire.

The bells of Gresford Parish Church, All Saints', are one of the traditional Seven Wonders of Wales.

The Seven Wonders of Wales is a traditional list of notable landmarks in North Wales, commemorated in an anonymously written rhyme:

"Pistyll Rhaeadr and Wrexham steeple *, Snowdon's mountain without its people,
Overton yew trees, St Winefride's well, Llangollen bridge and Gresford bells."

* The 16th-century tower of St Giles' Church in Wrexham can be seen for miles

Oswestry Cricket Club hosted a Forty Club Wales match this year; so did Ombersley Cricket Club in Worcestershire (and they're both very nice grounds, too!).

The Grade II* listed Manor House at Brigstock was built as a hunting lodge in a clearing of the Royal forest of Rockingham; in 1890 the house was remodelled by the Victorian architect John Alfred Gotch.

J A Gotch was also responsible for the completion of
The Market House, Rothwell, Northants, which had been designed by William Grumbald for Sir Thomas Tresham. Work started in 1577 but remained unfinished for nearly 300 years until completed by Gotch.

Of historical interest in Heysham are the stone graves in the ruins of the ancient St. Patrick's Chapel, close to St Peter's Church. They are thought to date from the 11th century, and are hewn from solid rock. Local legend has it that St Patrick landed here after crossing from Ireland and established the chapel. However it has been established that the chapel was built around 300 years after Patrick's death.

These stone graves appear on the cover of the Black Sabbath CD, "The Best of Black Sabbath". The group was formed in Aston, Birmingham, in 1968.

Snowshill is best known for nearby Snowshill Manor, a National Trust property open to the public. The manor house contains an unusual collection of furniture, musical instruments, craft tools, toys, clocks, bicycles and armour, all collected by architect and craftsman Charles Paget Wade between 1900 and 1951. He died in Evesham, Worcestershire, in 1956.

Round the corner from the childhood home of Ray and Dave Davies of The Kinks in Fortis Green, 60s folk rock band Fairport Convention lived at a house called Fairport, also in Fortis Green.

Fairport Convention nowadays play an annual festival at Croperdy near Banbury.

Which do we make the next association with....Fortis Green or Haringey. Both are shown emboldened in that last posting.

I'm sorry ... only Haringey should have been highlighted.

Moving on from Lincoln, though .... Steve Race OBE, the composer, pianist and radio and television presenter (famous for "My Music" between 1967 to 1994) was born there in 1921. He died in Solihull in 2009.
